Are we looking at our first bullpen meltdown? Let's get to Capper.

Well, John Grabow did his best Tyler Yates imitation. Let's get that run back and let Capper do his job.

Yates gives up long ball 3-2

Grabow comes in has 25 pitches and 13 strikes as he walks one, gives up a single and goes 3-2 on two batters but gets out of it. Lousy tonight but his ERA improves.

Can we hang on for one more inning??

Whew! We played with fire those last two innings, but Capper gets it done. Hey, FLA has been coming back on everyone so that's a BIG win. Bring out the brooms tomorrow.

Yes! What a win tonight, Karstens against Sanchez. That's huge. Way to finish it up Capps.

Fantastic game, and a quick one at that. I'm not sure No. 9 got his money's worth!

The Fish have a number of good RH hitters, so he may have some trouble being lights-out. We're going against Ricky Nolasco, so we'll need all the defensive help we can get. I'm not optimistic, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

No complaints here. I'd type more but my hands are in full defrost mode . . . . it was a cold one at the old ballpark.

Kudos to Jeff Karstens. He follows Ohlendorf's superb outing with a very good effort as well.

The Pirates 4 and 5 starters went a combined 13 innings, giving up just 5 hits and 3 walks, 1 run allowed.

Great work by the end of the rotation. The Buccos now have had 10 quality starts in 14 games. And for those who poo-poo the quality start statistic, the team is 8-2 in those games, and 0-4 in the non-quality start games.

The quality start the most underrated statistic in baseball.

I only got to see what happened from the game recap. It wasn't telivised here and on the 3 radio stations that usually cover the Pirates, 2 had on the Penguins game and one for some reason had on the Brewers Phillies game. I don't understand that one.

Great game though from what i read here and what the stats say.

Guys I am getting really excited about the Pirates...this pitching staff is pretty good so far..it just feels good to be 8-6.

The game didn't start out that bad in terms of weather. It just kept getting colder and colder during the game. So much so that the resident board polar bear (myself) actually put on a coat.

This was a good game to watch for a lot of reasons. I'll take that kind of effort from my No. 5 any day. Sure beats Joba on the DUI list. Some timely hitting. Some good defense from Jack, Moss and An La Roche. In short, baseball's "best" team now has 7 hits in two games, and two runs against the Bucs.

I'll put up with handwarmers for that.
