Nice Pirate win!

Maholm is for real.

Maholm and Duke, best 1-2 punch in the league.

Go Bucs!

You must be kidding if you actually think they are the BEST 1-2 punch in the league!

Combined 4-0, with ERA of 0.83. I haven't checked all the teams. Does someone have top two guys with better stats?

Using the small sample size of the '09 season, it is hard to argue that there is another duo in the league doing better than Duke and Maholm right now. Obviously, we need to wait a month or two to really see how things go. Regardless, Maholm has shown that he has picked it up from last year, and Duke seems to be regaining his '05 form. If Ohlendorf and Snell can at least compete, .500 may be possible this year...maybe.

Maholm did not have his best stuff today. Some control issues, and a few pitches left over the plate.

Why is that good news, indeed great news? Because he went 7 inning, gave up 4 hits and 0 runs when he had his "B" stuff. I am really stoked that Maholm has developed into such a good young pitcher.

And the Braves announcing crew stated that Maholm has now thrown at least 6 innings in 25 of his past 26 starts. That is simply unbelievable.

And by the way - Capps was dealing. He overpowered the Braves hitters. Couple of weak pop fly balls and a K. He threw nothing but fastballs - all fastballs - and the Braves could not catch up. If he had thrown a change-up, the Braves batter probably would have suffered a hernia from overswinging.

In addition, they are each tied for second most wins in the Majors behind Halladay. Duke is 3rd in the majors in ERA and Maholm is 9th. No other team has two guys in top 10!

I couldn't believe it when i looked at the stats and saw Animal was right about them being the best 1-2 bunch going right now.
Lohse and Carpenter were close but with Carpenter out that has all changed since Carpenter went on the DL.
The best 1-2-3 punch of the best active players right now at this point in the season is the 1-2-3 of the Royals with Zack Greinke, Gil Meche, and Kyle Davies.
So that just goes to show alot will change.

You guys need to wake up Maholm has pitched what 3 games? Or 2? Duke 2 or 1?
At most they have been pitching in 5 games and then you say their the best one two punch. Please wake up.

We were talking about so far for this season, and by the stats they are the best 1-2 punch so far. Atleast i hope others weren't saying they are the best 1-2 punch in baseball besides just through their first 2 starts a piece because i would have to disagree with that.

Since May 31, 2008 through present, Maholm has gone 9-4, pitched 165 innings, giving up 143 hits, 47 walks, 100 K's, with an ERA of 2.84.

Over his last 26 starts, Maholm has pitched at least 6 innings 25 times. Think about that for a second. Maholm pitches well enough that he goes at least 6 innings every time out.

Over his last 23 starts, Maholm has pitched 158 1/3 innings, or an average of 7 innings per start. How many pitchers can say the same?

So, for Maholm, it is clearly not just "3 games."

And if he pitched for one of the New York teams he'd be doing Right Guard commercials right now.

I am not saying Maholm isnt a great pitcher. I am disagreeing with who said He and Duke were the best 1-2 punch in the league. You cant dig up stats for duke since he hasnt proven anything.

Today's game shows why it is a little premature to be making such claims.
