Riddle for the stat guys:

Who's hitting .267, with three homers after eight games?

Answer: the oft criticized, wanted benched or traded one. The guy many love to hate. The no good spring guy who continually disappoints when early needs demand. We should designate him for reassignment.

You know what would be great? Like, if he had a little brother upon whom all that misdirected contempt could be turned. Folks would really get into that, I think.

I hope he can keep it going. Adam is a good guy, and I would like to see success from him for himself, the team, and us fans!

Go Adam.

Yes, he needs to have a good first half so we can get something for him in July.

Right on Ralphie and that is what i have been saying is going to happen. Little LaRoche will be this years first half goat, but he will be lucky to make it to the second half on the major league roster if he doesn't pick it up.

My opinion on Adam LaRoche: I root for him because he's a Pirate, but I just don't really like to watch the guy play baseball. Even when he's playing well. The way he fields, hits, runs... everything. His effort seems so nonchalant. His whole persona seems to magnify the bad whenever he leaves runners on base or makes an error. With Jack or Freddie, I think get 'em next time. But with LaRoche, I just become livid. He seems like a nice enough guy and I'm sure he wants to win... but he's infuriating to watch.

Anyway, just wanted to throw that all out there. Hopefully he can build on his decent start this season.

I bet if Adam was more "gritty" or "scrappy," people would like him more.

I think I read somewhere that Adam LaRoche has the thrid worst April batting average in the history of baseball.

Basically true in just about every sport. And, to a large extent, I think that you will find that in most areas of life, people are far more accepting of those that try hard, hustle and put out a solid effort. Those people who appear to be more relaxed, less enthusiastic and "laid back" are more apt to be criticized. The assumption (whether it is true or not) is that the one person is putting out 100% effort while the other person is not maximizing his talents.

I have a feeling about this year...I think the Pirates are going to surprise alot of people. Maybe not playoffs, but a competitive season at least. And I think Laroche may be a big part of that. There is a difference this year and I am finally seeing a little bit of confidence in this guy.

So, for you, it's more important to look good than it is to actually BE good.

True. As for me, I'd rather have 60% of LaRoche than 100% of Minky.

Never said it was more important to look good than to be good. In fact, quite the opposite. If you were to cast roles in 'White Men Can't Jump' it would be LaRoche that would be classified as the Wesley Snipes character and since you brought up Minky-he'd be cast as the Woody Harrelson guy.

If you've seen the movie, LaRoche would be the guy who gives the feeling he'd rather look good and lose then to look bad and win.

I might take 60% of LaRoche over 100% of Minky, too... but the instant that number brings them to equal, I'll change. So, I guess I'd take 100% of Minky over 59% of LaRoche.

Bottom line: Adam LaRoche will never be my favorite player, but I still hope he plays well while in a Pirate uniform.

I've been first in line to criticize LaRoche and I will gladly applaud his start. I hope he keeps it up, time will tell.

I still don't think he is worth his paycheck. But again, maybe he'll prove me wrong. He hasn't in two full seasons, but maybe this is the year.

Two Words: Trade Bait.
