Wilson is 4-9 at Indianapolis and played 5 innings on defense yesterday. He will play for Indy today and then go to Altoona for 4 games beginning tomorrow. He may be back with the Pirates by Friday, according to the anticipated timetable.

If the Buccos can keep it together for the next 3 weeks, until Wilson and Doumit both return, then they could put together a good season.

Craig W belted two? Wonder what he was drinking in the dugout?

I wonder if he sees the writing on the wall. He, under no circumstances, will be a Pittsburgh Pirate. I always kind of liked him too. He seemed to have lost his mojo when he cut his hair.

I see way that he could be called up. Say he puts up good numbers in Indy, but Pearce doesn't, then Minky or LaRoche go down in August with the Pirates hovering around the .500 mark. Not the likeliest scenario, of course, but quite possible.

Who knows, maybe Wilson gets a bench job next year. With LaRoche at first, a right-handed backup would be a good fit.

That's true, but this team sure needs a left handed bat off of the bench.

If the Craigster can find his bat on something reflecting a regular basis in Indy, I've got no problem with him being called up and Rivas going away after Jack comes back. One,Gomez can play SS for a game or two if Jack needs a brief break. Anything longer and Bixler can be recalled. Minky can be the emergency 2B replacement - if more is needed, Bixler can be called up.
After Michaels or Minky/Bautista, the Buc bats are weak off the bench. If anything, I never had a problem with Craig off the bench in a primarily PH role - spot start is just fine.
To be blunt, Wilson could tie or win a game with a big homer or double off the wall in the right situation. Rivas just doesn't offer that in his game.

Speaking of blasts from the past that might help, I don't understand why we aren't considering Kata up and Rivas down. If nothing else, Kata brings a versatile bat to the table and he makes the routine plays at 3b and 2b.

I'm with you on that one.

If Craig can prove hes ready for a bench job, I wouldn't have a problem bringing him up either...

As for sending Rivas down I'd have no problem with that too...
Bautista could always go to 2nd if there was a problem or Freddy needed a rest and Doug Meint go to 3rd...Plus Bautista can cover the OF, and management said they'd feel alright having him at SS too...(He cant be any worse than Bixler and Rivas)
Gomez can cover all the infield spots...
Michaels has all 3 OF spots
Doug can cover the corner outfield and the corner infield spots
Craig can cover 1st, and LF and RF...

It would be a versatile bench, plus without Rivas, it might give Bautista a few more atbats...I think to keep this team going, everyone on the bench needs some regular at bats and losing Rivas would allow Bautista and Gomez to get a few more

I don't see much reason at all to keep Rivas on the team.
