I know its early but I am doing some scoreboard watching already, and notice the Cards have won 5 in a row, and currently leading Arizona 3-0. Also the Cubs are hot, and the Reds are now 4-3 assuming they hold on to the lead they have tonight. I thought the NL Central was supposed to be down???

Something has happened to Chris Carpenter. He was cruising along in the fourth -- given up 0 runs, four hits, 0BB and 2Ks -- and suddenly a pitching change.

Without him there is a huge hole in their SP rotation. Did he hurt himself?

That will be a big blow to him if he is hurt again.

It's being reported as a rib cage injury. Not sure of the extent, but considering it's not his arm, that's good news for the Cardinals.

Very good news for them and one of my fantasy teams. It can still be a pretty sticky injury around that area though for a pitcher. If he feels pain when he throws he could lose atleast 10 mph on his pitch speed.

Carpenter hurt his left rib cage. That kind of injury can bother a pitcher for weeks ... and given Carpenter's injury history, they are not going to rush him back.

And the Cards went on to lose this game.
