"'Twas the Day After Opening Day"

Twas the day after opening day, when all through PNC
Nobody around, except the employees.
The bats in their racks, still hot from the contact,
They were busy in the opener, that is a fact!

The fans still excited, a great game we all saw,
Duke was amazing, he left us in awe!
Back to school the kids go, wearing thier opening day caps,
With noone around, I can take an afternoon nap.

Then I turned on the tube, to watch ESPN,
I could watch all the highlights again and again.
The game was exciting, a great effort by all.
Full of great memories, the fans all had a ball!.

The top of the first, had that old familiar look.
A one out double, Duke's goose might be cooked.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Berkman strikeout, Duke's different, it's clear.

To the bottom of the first, Sanchez doubles real quick,
Here comes Nate and Doumit, a couple good sticks!
Nate gave it a ride, but in the end he was out,
But Dooey came through, the start of the rout!

"Go Morgan! and Freddie, and Nate, followed by Doumit!
Then Adam and Moss, come on guys, let's Zoom it!!
Vazquez and Jack are the rest of the hitters!
Today's a new day, I know none of you are quitters!"

As the third came around, the ball really started to fly,
Freddie doubles, Nate Singles, LaRoche makes a blast in the sky.
By the end of the inning, the Bucs were up by six.
Enough for the Duke, thanks to the Kerrigan fix.

Duke kept the game moving, throwing strike after strike.
Sit down Astro batters, go take a hike!
He kept throwing zeros, time after time,
'Stros bats were so quiet, just like a mime.

When it was all done, the Bucs had a big win.
'Stros bats quiet throughout, like a dropped pin.
Great pitching and offense, just what we fans need,
Will keep the wins coming, and make us happy indeed!

A complete game shutout, 14 hits, plus plus six free passes?
Is this really our Pirates, I asked the surrounding masses?
Three hits from LaRoche, including his second dinger?
Could it be a good April for our first baseman, free swinger?

Jack's really hitting, and suprising us all.
Three doubles for Freddie, with drives to the wall.
McLouth, and Doumit, what's not to like?
Moss has looked good, and Nyjer's proving he's not Tike!

As we left PNC Park, I gave out a cheer, a loud holler,
I think I'll go Wednesday, I can get in for a dollar!
As I left the "Burgh", made my way to the east,
I yelled back one more time, ZACK DUKE is a BEAST!"

Quote the Animal "Nevermore"
Not bad. I got a couple of good laughs and it flowed really good. I think this is a board first. I would like to see some more of these throughout the season.

It is one of my specialties. I actually have a couple old ones. I will see if I can dig them up.

Nicely done Animal! You managed to squeeze in a Tike Redman reference, not an easy thing to do. Thanks.

It's not a first, but it's pretty good. You are an animal after my own heart!

Thanks guys. I will try to keep them coming. I like to make some very obscure references. Wait till you read my ODE TO ABRAHAM NUNEZ!

I may have to break out my "Christmas Carol" from a few years ago on the old board. Gee, if the Pirates keep winning, this board might get absolutely giddy!!

If we win, the board will get giddy.
If we lose, it will be pity!

But do you say "Doo-mit" or "Zoh-mit"?
