Pirates' lineup:

1. Morgan, LF
2. Sanchez, 2B
3. McLouth, CF
4. Doumit, C
5. Adam LaRoche, 1B
6. Moss, RF
7. Vazquez, 3B
8. Wilson, SS
9. Zach Duke, P

Astros' lineup:

1. Matsui, 2B
2. Tejada, SS
3. Berkman, 1B
4. Lee, LF
5. Pence, RF
6. Michaels, LF
7. Keppinger, 3B
8. Quintero, C
9. Brian Moehler, P

I like our chances today. I don't think the Buccos have had much success against Moehler in the past and I don't know why that is. Hopefully today changes that.
I really hate the void the Pirates have at 3rd base this year. Interesting to see the Astros have Jeff Keppinger in the lineup today. The ex-Pirate has been bouncing around lately.

Unless Moehler has sandpaper taped to his thumb again, he is very hittable. Exactly what the Pirates need for their home opener.

Loaded up on lefties. Nice.

As long as Duke keeps the ball down and in the ballpark against Tejada, Lee and Michaels, he should be able to put together a good start.

I know PNC has a big LF but the Astros might be in for some trouble if they're playing 2 LFer's and no CFer...

Adam Laroche with a nice homer, him and McLouth score. This is looking like it'll finish in our favour and that McLouth kid is still impressing, with a nice single before the homer. At least one of the Laroche Brothers can actually hit one out of the park! Hopefully Andy can catch the vibe and do something out there next game!

4 - 0, a great game in the works!

At first, a guy like Moehler on the mound made me thnk someone would be opening up the 2009 version of "The Scotts' Turf Builder Hall of Fame". But I noticed a (big?) difference between this year's team and previous years: Tejada's double in the first inning would've led to a 2 or 3 run Astros inning in previous years.

Heard on the Eastern Seaboard Programming Network that the Bucs are 2-13 in the last 15 home openers. Looking good right now. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!

One more inning for Zach? Will Russell allow him to throw 120 pitches?

Booo-yah. Raise the Jolly Roger! There was - definitely - no doubt about it.

I would have taken him out, but he got the complete game.

That's 6 quality starts in 7 games for the Buccos. What a pleasant surprise.

And talk about surprises, Adam LaRoche is hitting in April!

I am so happy for Zach. Wow! And on the home opener!

Normally I say "screw pitch count" but this is pretty early in the season. I hope he'll feel OK. I tip my hat to JR for even considering the complete game. Jim Tracy would've lifted him after 85 pitches.

This is a great start and it's because of the pitching. Hey, we all knew that's how it would be. So far, so good.

I enjoyed listening to this game with Zach on his comeback trail.
Now I look forward to reading the reports from all the guys who attended.

Zach was definitely the player of the game today, for the amount of pitches he threw, he was never sloppy. Him getting a full game was also a very nice thing done by the coaching staff, you don't see that happening every day! 2 wins for Duke, I really hope to see more of him sooner than later.

Duke looks really good so far this season and i don't think it is going to change that much. I think the batting dummy and the new pitching coach has helped him better than anybody else on the team.

What i liked about Duke's performance was his pitch location.

I , among others, have labled him as the highest paid batting practice pitcher in the majors.

Now, it seems he is not Tossing it right down the middle, no matter what the count is to the batter.

I saw Houston chasing alot of outside and low pitches.

Even if they got lucky , and made contact with some of them, the chances of the ball not going to a fielder has a very low %.

He also seems to have a lot more bite on his breaking stuff, and his fastball, becomes sneaky fast, when he can get swings and misses on those OUT pitches.

It seemed like he was going inside about 50% of the time, outside about 30%, and low about 20%. He is keeping the ball down and out of the middle of the strike zone. You can't throw more accurate pitches than that!

Was it my imagination, but did he look stronger in the 9th? I saw a few of the FB's around 91mph while the entire game he was around 87-89.
