I remember when they drafted him and he came out of Rice, but have never heard him as the replacement for Jack.

His numbers through four games are crazy at Altoona. .667/.714/1.167.

He is only 23 and put up decent numbers at Lynchburg last season.

FWIW: I don't know what the Pirates think of him, but from my limited knowledge, I like Friday better than Bixler. I also like Friday better than most of the SS's we heard mentioned at the trade deadline last year (Hu, Brignac, etc). However, I'm not ready to predict any sort of success for him until he's put in a bit of time at Altoona.

Baseball Prospectus has Friday as the Pirates number 10 prospect and rates him as a "two star" prospect.

23 is not particularly young to be at AA, but he is a prospect based on his hitting. He has a good eye at the plate, plus power for a SS. However, some question his defense and suggest he may wind up at 2B. Certainly, if he hits his way to AAA, and performs at that level, then he is one of the Pirates' best middle infield prospects.

To add my two cents..in the three games I have seen Friday play (he had Friday off..imagine that, Friday taking FRIDAY off??), he has shown me a lot of good stuff. The kid plays solid defense at short, works the count as a lead-off hitter and is one of the soundest fundamental players that I have seen this year (albeit just four games).

He is already a big leaguer defensively..and is progressing nicely at the plate. I believe this kid can be the answer at short when Jack Wilson is shown the door..

He continues to hit at an elite level. He went 3-3 with a walk in Altoona's loss. For the year, he is now 8-12, with 2 BB's, 0 K's, 1 2B, 1 3B, and 1 HR. OBP of .714 in AA ... darn impressive.

Very nice and the 2 walks and no strikeouts is real nice to see. He is playing above his level right now. I hope he can keep it up.
