Morgan is playing good ball. If he can continue to get on base, it will be huge for the Buccos. Maholm pitching a solid game again today. NDog has a 2 run HR also.

Bucs looking good!

Maholm is running out of steam. Good job Paul. Bullpen needs to get it done.

Maholm has just been lucky. He was clearly outpitched by Cueto. Just look at the strikeout numbers. That tells you all you need to know.

A couple points as I watch this game:

1. While I don't expect Nyjer to keep this up, I am certainly rooting for him. It is nothing but good for the Pirates if he succeeds, whether it is in trade value or as a piece of our team going forward. Remember, Moss is far from established, so there is somewhere McCutchen can play even if Nyjer sticks. Obviously, with no power at all, it will be hard to sustain this success when pitchers aren't afraid of him, but who knows?

2. Adam LaRoche has hit 2 balls to the track. The other day, he had a rip down the line that Pujols snagged. I know the numbers don't back me up, but he doesn't look as lost as in Aprils past. Maybe?

3. I <3 Paul Maholm.

He had a three-run home run from what the announcers said. Tavares robbed him. With that said, the LaRoche brothers are stinky right now. Andy has until the end of April to get it together then it's off to Indy. Adam should go on the DL until June 1 with psychological problems.

How has Andy looked? I see the box score has him 0-4 with no K's...so he's connecting, anything on how his at bats have been?

Is Jack really a veteran? That CS was rookie-like. Zero outs. Five run lead. Dumb play.

I should have added that as much as I've liked the way Adam has looked, Andy looks completely lost up there. Completely. Don't know what to make of it.

Give props to Morgan. He is hitting, but he is also playing very hard - hockey attitude. He bowled over the catcher to score a run in this game and he took out the SS on a DP ball to keep the inning alive and Doumit delivered.

Would hate to speak too soon, but with Doumit's granny, it looks like the worst we can be at the home opener is .500.

I hate to be the downer but leave it to LaRoche to hit one out in a 9-1 game...

:D

I know it's trivial but how nuts does it drive you Chavez walking someone with a nine run lead?

Very nice win. Great job by Maholm. Good hitting overall. Seven extra base hits. 12 Ks, but we'll take it.

Dusty handles pitchers like a lot of college coaches.

Very good win. Maholm is pitching like a stud and the bats came alive. I like having our starters go 6+ innings to save the bullpen. Very, very good job Paul!

You obviously didn't see his prior two at bats.

"I really would wish Morgan would stop his hitting, but at the same time, if he keeps this up he'd make a nice trade bait when McCutchen comes up..."

Are you a Pirate fan??

Why in the world would any Pirate fan not want a Pirate to do well? Suppose that Morgan can keep it up. He has done very well. Wouldn't an outfield of Morgan, McCutchen, and McLouth look good, with Moss as a #4 guy? Truth is, if Morgan can keep it up (and let's not forget how good Redman, Duffy, and some other looked over a short period), then we have a prototypical leadoff hitter. We have not had that in a long, long time. Those guys would look real good batting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
