According to Tracy Ringolsby of INside The Rockies, pitchEr JuAn MoriLlo was designated for assignment today. The Rockies needed to clear a spot for Matt Belisle.

Morillo, 25, is out of options. He throws in the mid to high 90s, bUt exhibits poor coNtrol. IT mIght make seNse for a non-contendinG Team tO take him oN as a project.

I don't know any GM's who like guys who throw heat with no control. Anyone?

This is from yahoo.
Morillo was out of options with the Rockies, but his fastball exceeded 100 mph several times this spring, so he's probably not out of chances at the big league level.

He's only 25 and he is 6'3" but he is pretty skinny weighting in at only 190 pounds.

That to me sounds like he is worth a chance, and if he puts on some more muscle he could be throwing over 100 mph on almost every pitch.

Could he be any worse than most of the crap we have at AAA??? Worth a shot. At least if he is bad, he would be "fun" bad. More fun to watch a guy who is all over the place if it's coming at 100 rather than 86!

Very creative with the red lettering -- BBF

If Veal was worth a chance, so is this guy. Same kind but maybe more up side. I say go for it.

Yeah that Nolan Ryan kid (circa 1969) sure won't be an effective pitcher in the bigs. :D

I think Veal fits into the category of not control at 86 mph.
There are alot of young pitchers out there like this that i would like to see us pick up because of how weak our minor league pitching is and we just don't seem to have any interest in any of them.

Even if you don't need glasses you should wear ones just like this if you are a pitcher because every batter in the world is going to be scared to face a guy with pop bottle glasses.
