I tip my hat to Carpenter. Buuuut our defense in the 7th really cost us this game. Tough loss for Ohlendorf.

I really cannot stomach having the defense blow the game. The Pirates need to win brutal and close games where they have a real chance to win, to avoid 95 losses this year.

Seriously, the pitching did its job. The offense can be wretched on this team. Carpenter is a beast, but Ryan Franklin is good-not-great and Dennys Reyes sucks. Pirates should have done something those last two innings and instead went down like lambs to the slaughter.

Maye Larussa' squad will finally OD on performance enhancers.

Cheer up Bucfan! We are playing .500 and are only 2 games from being the best club in the NL!

Overall we got to see some nice pitching from the starters for 3 games and saw some nice offense 2 of the games...I feel a little better about this season now than I did during the winter...

Carpenter should pay part of Alvarez' signing bonus ... after all, HE FREAKING OWNS THE PIRATES!!

Rats! I didn't know we had a day game today. I was off today with nothing to do too. I would've just been mad anyway. I can't stand losing when we get good pitching. Carpenter kills us.

Jeez, my favorite band, Motte the Hoople. Did he come "All the way From Memphis"? Or is he one of "All the Young Dudes"? Or just "One of the Boys"?

Very good and underrated band, from the Bay Area if I recall correctly.

The Bay Area considers itself a kingdom ... does that count?

It wasnt that bad of a game in all honesty...

Carpenter had 7 K's and 12 groundball outs...Thats a pretty dominating pitching performance

Carpenter has been a very good pitcher in his career and from what I've read his velocity is back to where it was his Cy Young year...

We had good starting pitching, and the defense wasnt too bad...

It sucks they lost but it was a good game on both sides...

Our pitching today was not that good. With only 1 strikeout, Ohlendorf is very lucky to have only given up 2 runs. It also didn't help that his relief (Burnett) can't get hitters out at the plate.

That said, Carpenter is very good, and the Cardinals D is even better, Pujols's misplays notwithstanding. It was highly unlikely that we were going to win this game.

Not unless there's a bay in Herefordshire, England that I don't know about.

Perhaps you're confusing Mott the Hoople with Moby Grape, Bucfan? Two great bands with silly names...

You are correct!! Great call. Moby Grape is exactly the band I was thinking of, and it was a darn good group. Friend bought an old Moby Grape album - the appropriately entitled "Moby Grape" - at a used record store (remember them??) in 1978 or 1979 and we listened to that album about a hundred times.
