Our defense stinks. DP ball under Freddy's glove. Ross deserved better.

They ruled it a single. Wehner seems to sound like it should have been E4. Thoughts? I'm listening on radio.

Kind of a close call. It was hit in the gap, Freddy dove but it skipped under his glove. He probably should have had it, but it wasn't a routine ground ball or anything.

Thanks. Wehner saying it looked like Freddy got a bad jump.

Am I the only one who thinks the ball never even touched him?

Burnett blows. Hits Ryan with pitch on an 0-2 count! Bases loaded no outs. Ohlendorf should punch everyone in the nuts as they enter the dugout when and if this inning ever ends.

Actually the ball never touched Ryan ... it went off his bat. But he could have won an Oscar for the acting job.

Gotta give credit to Carpenter. He practically missed two whole years and he comes out and dominates.

Nice outing for Ohlie no matter how it turns out.

Great throw by Moss to get us out of that mess by Burnett ... I would have hated to see the Burnett-Pujols match up that was up next.

Definitely. Ross did the job. Good news is Cards bullpen is involved now. We have a chance.

Can't pitch that close inside on 0-2 in a tight game in that situation. But Moss bails his ass out. Whew! Lets get em back now that Carpenter is out. Maybe Motte can help us out again?

Man, I'm looking at that Andy LaRoche AB and it's pretty ugly. Takes two 88 mph fastballs for balls, then manages to not make solid contact on three fastballs right down the pike, 89, 88, and 91. Does Franklin have that much movement or, as I suspect, is Andy that lost?

Don't like that PH anyway. Adam should have been the guy. Save Andy for the ninth in case you have to face Miller or Reyes. Pirates have 5 straight lefties coming up.

Maybe JR wanted to get the out out of the way?

I tip my hat to Carpenter. Buuuut our defense in the 7th really cost us this game. Tough loss for Ohlendorf. The box score won't show the poorly fielded Green bunt hit and our sure handed but lead footed second basemens inability to pull down a playable double play grounder.

I really cannot stomach having the defense blow the game. The Pirates need to win brutal and close games where they have a real chance to win, to avoid 95 losses this year.

Seriously, the pitching did its job. The offense can be wretched on this team. Carpenter is a beast, but Ryan Franklin is good-not-great and Dennys Reyes sucks. Pirates should have done something those last two innings and instead went down like lambs to the slaughter.

Maye Larussa' squad will finally OD on performance enhancers.
