To add insult to injury, Stan Kasten, in a misguided attempt to bolster attendance, issued an open invitation to Phillies fans to come invade Nationals park this season.

Quote:
"It will be fun, and I think Philly's our best, closest National League rival. We always have great games with them here, because there's so many Philly kids in college here. So we always have great, enthusiastic crowds, and we hope you all come back again. We have an opening day here Monday, we'd love for all our Philly fans to come down, because I know it's gonna be so hard to get tickets in Philadelphia this year. It'll be much easier if you drive down the road and come see us in Washington."

They also unveiled some of the most ungodly, fugliest statues imaginable outside the stadium in advance of the Nats home opener:

Stop-action statuary? Wow. What a hideous idea.

Translation: "Our fans suck because we are constantly putting an inferior team on the field. So we'd love to sell our numerous empty seats to Phillies fan. Please come, hell even the Pirates sell out their opener."

By the way, I just went to their website and went for the best tickets available for Monday's opener:

Section D, Row C, seats 4 and 5. Right behind the plate in the Presidents Club. Heck I was also able to get four together in the visitor's side boxes.

The artwork outside the stadium:

Still from the 1981 movie classic, John Carpenter's "The Thing."

Egads... I thought that picture was some Photoshopped abomination...but it's real! It's supposed to be Walter Johnson? I see that they also have plans (or maybe they've already done it) for statues of Josh Gibson and Frank Howard in similar "Thing" style.

I heard the Giants are in the process of putting a statue up to celebrate Barry Bonds' career in San Francisco...

The only thing holding them up is being able to get the a permit to store vast amounts of helium to show how his head and body grew from 1996 to 2003 without causing a danger to the fans visiting the ball park...

They look like the sculptor didn't get to finish his work.

Probably because Nationals fans killed him.

That has to be the dumbest in all of sports. I can't think of another one that is worse. I thought it was a photoshop joke also at first until i googled it and saw it was real.
