I think that some may have missed the point of the article. He is back on track, very much so, and is happier than he has been in years.

Yeah, I don't see this as sad at all. We all have blips in our lives and retirement can be a big deal. Too many folks simply drop dead after retiring, as I fully expect JoePa to do.

I have a friend in broadcasting, and he's met Lanny on a few occasions. Lanny is a very intense individual, so much so that he seems obsessive about what he does, and the announcers fraternity would tease him about it.

So, I'm not surprised he had to make an adjustment, and that he's done so. Good for him.

Speaking of Pirate broadcasters, how do those of you who've heard him like Frattare's successor so far?

Thanks to the inefficacy of MLB's audio, I still await the experience.

Herb Score was the Indians play-by-play guy for well over thirty years. He didn't go to any Indians games for some years after he retired.

I will miss Lanny but I won't hear any broadcasts anyway. Makes absolutely no sense why they want to broadcast games on FM.

I have always been a huge Lanny fan, and hope the best for him. I think it's a shame that he has had to tune out the Bucs the way he has, but I am sure that is what he needs to keep his sobriety, at least for now. Retirement can be tough for many.

Good Luck Lanny!

The new guy is good for sure but I do miss Lanny. He wasn't the best, but I've heard him and identified him with the bucs for so long, it's very sad for me to not hear him.

Yeah i liked the new guy better tonight than the game i heard him do during spring training but he is still far from Lanny. The new guy trys to act to professional and he doesn't come off as being a Pirate fan or friendly and Lanny came off as both of those two things.

HAPPY MEDIUM.

While the new guy sounds awful vanilla, and not like a fan at all, I think he will get there. Even still, that is better than being an overgrown cheerleader and so fake, like Greg Brown.

I like Greg Brown's but i don't like the calls he has for big plays, they are pretty lame and they are embarrassing when you hear them on sportscenter or a show of that magnitude.

Thank goodness the Pirates havent been on Sports Center since 1997...

I know alot of you dont like Greg Brown and he can be annoying, but he is still one of the better out there that I have heard...

'Sho nuff', that was Greg Brown. I think he tied it into Rob Mackowiak, even.

He also brought us the immortal "La-la-la-la-LaRoche!"

Yeah those calls stink but i like his voice and his chatter talk. When they have people in the booth to interview i like him to be there for that also, but i just feel like the Pirates now have a #2 and a #3 and don't have that #1 announcer anymore.

I think that had something to do with the name of his kid, but I'm probably wrong.

Which is stupid, especially when the translation of his last name ("The Rock" in French) could have yielded much cooler homerun calls.

That would come in handy when LaRoche watches strike 3 go past him without swinging.
"LaRoche just stood there and watched it go by like a rock".
I think you are on to something here Wilton.
