I do not agree, at all. I understand that you do not agree with the comment, by the way (see, I "get it"), but your observation is not an accurate portrayal of Maholm's pitching. The guy throws a power 2-seam at 90 mph. He has a plus curve. His 4-seam hits 92-93 mph pretty regularly...

Well, from what I read here, and there, that kind of velocity, along with the stated K/BB ratio, does not translate to "1-2" stuff. I mean that only in the "don't actually look at his accomplishments" review.

I don't think I've ever read anything since his drafting that indicated that anyone considered him more than a middle of the rotation guy.

I think he could be a version of Maddux though.

Yeah, well, as far as we know, that guy is out huntin' wabbits...

On MLB network show last night, Al Leiter gave Maholm his award for the performance of the day yesterday.

Not just him . . .
In 2006 and 2007, I was really down on him. I know that I once compared his "nibbling," "dancing on the corner of the plate" and "frustratingly inconsitent performance" to "a thinner version of Jimmie Anderson" which drew a good comment back from Az. I'm eating crow on my predictions of him. I thought that Perez, Duke, Snell and Gorzo all showed more promise and - given that I didn't like how similar Duke, Gorzo and Maholm pitched - actively advocated trying to move Maholm before either Duke or Gorzo.
Big miss on that prediction.

Hey Al: "Khalil Greene would be #2 or #8 hitter on any other team, but he's their #4"

I also was a little perplexed that one of the Cards announcers (may have been the other non-Hrabosky guy) said: "The Mets beat Cincinnati..Johnny Cueto got the start, there". WHAT?!!
