Phillies DFA'd him, NO ONE picked him from waivers. Back to the minors, off the 40-man, eligible for the Rule 5 draft, yes?

No one selected him. That can't be right. Given his pedigree, he should've been the first selection. This ain't Bobby Bradley here.

He was smart to go back to Stanford to earn his degree. He is going to need it.

Fine, Appel appears. He's leaving the sport voluntarily. So it's 'his' idea to step away. Yeah, ok.

Whipping boy #2: Where's Pedro Alvarez? I just looked, Orioles aren't even inviting him as a non-roster guy to spring training. He's available just like Appel is! Errr, was.

Pedro was a good guy. Sometimes the rigors of the sport get the best of even the best potential stars.

Let's not compare Pedro's genuine efforts and natural shortcomings with Appel's hubris.

It's an apples and oranges situation.

Also, Pedro had some level of success at the ML level. He was an all star and HR king one year. Did he realize the potential of his talents; I would say no but he was head-and-shoulders more successful than Appel.
