In my eyes that transition started last season. Bell is a no brainer.

Bell or Marte.

Marte has been here longer, but also has more baggage, so... it's probably about even.

I would have agreed with Marte until the PED issue.

Don't see Marte as any clubhouse leader or that other players would look up to

As far as I'm concerned, there is no face of the franchise until it's earned.

Josh Bell is a pretty sad excuse for a face of the team.

Bell has played 1 full season for the Pirates, an is a career .258 .341 .455 .796 hitter.
He had a 1.7 WAR in a full season of play last year. If that is your face of the franchise, then I would say your franchise is in a pretty desperate state.

If you are gonna proclaim Josh Bell the face of the franchise you could just as easily say Adam Frazier the same (if not slightly more so), since they are pretty similar players production and age wise. But continue to live in your fantasy world

I'd say Clint Hurdle is the face of the franchise right now.

Anyone who thinks that Frazier and Bell are similar players "production-wise" is living in a fantasy world.

Not really. At this point in time, Frazier has been more productive. He has a better slash line, higher OPS, and higher cumulative WAR over the last 2 seasons.

Bell is overrated. Don't get me wrong, I like him, and I'm satisfied with his rookie year, but judged against his peers, he is not that good.

People are enomored by what he might become, moreso than what he is.

The numbers don't lie, look them up for yourself.

Slugging percentage-

Frazier .399
Bell .466

OPS

Frazier .743
Bell .800

When I think "run production," I think these numbers are important. And yes, they don't lie. If you can cherry-pick, so can I.

I like Bell as a person and a player. I think he will be a solid Major Leager due to his talent and work ethic. Good everyday player yes, but not an all star or franchise type player. Currently he is the 3rd or arguably 4th best 1B in the division.
