Total deal could be worth 42 million over 6 years if both options were picked up.

Great we got a closer that we might get to use once a week. I’d say trade him but Huntington would get a used bag of balls for him.

That’s a really good deal for the Pirates if he keeps performing. That’s a big if though. Wasn’t too long ago that Sabre folks viewed closers as fools gold. Too inconsistent and injury prone. Now they are used differently than in the past and they are premium resources. IMO they are over valued and unless the Pirates want to wait again for the market to correct they should trade him now.

6/$42MM is about the going rate for a somewhat competent reliever from an AAV standpoint so even if he's not otherworldly good like he was last year it should still end up being a really good deal.

Will this mean we get more back when we trade him this summer?

Now I wonder how long Josh Harrison will be a Pirate. There's really no way they keep a $10 million salary around when they have people who can play that position for league minimum and we really don't expect to win in 2018.

I think the Yankees are the most likely landing spot for Harrison.

Or Mil, who appears hot for him.

I can see him bringing back a LF in some manner or form. Unless you like Frazier out there (the sabre guys seem to, and his back certainly plays at leadoff).

That would mean you're going with Moroff, SRod, or a rookie from AAA as your 2nd.

I see them getting an OF back.

No he won't. He can only play 1B. Does not have the feet or quickness to play LF in PNC Park.
