There was a show on MLB channel today on the top breakout players of 2017. Josh Bell of course made the list at #13. Then some of the experts threw out some names for 2018 that may be big breakout players. Chad Kuhl and Gregory Polanco got mentioned. It would be great to see either or both of them do that. It could give this team a big boost. Just look at the Cardinals. It seems that they get at least one guy every year that comes out of nowhere. Last year they had two- Paul DeJong and Tommy Pham. DeJong wasn't even on their 40 man roster, and Pham was just e depth piece.

It got me to thinking- other than the two mentioned, who could possibly put it together and play out of their mind? The first guy I thought of offensively was Max Moroff. Glasnow on the mound...

Who do you all think?

Polanco has been a breakout candidate for a solid three years now.

He's not a complete disappointment like Jose Tabata, but he is what he is.

He's also like 25 or 26 so I get why he'd be a breakout candidate.

He's been hurt.

Yes but does he do the work during the off season and in-season to reduce his chances of injury?

Yes, he's a workout fiend. However, he needs to change the type of work outs. He obviously went too big and stiff. Needs more flexibility to avoid injury. Also, IMHO, he was still growing into his body the last couple of years. Still figuring himself out.

I still think he'll be a beast.

I don't. I think Polanco is lacking in both passion and athleticism, and will not be able to raise his game up much beyond what we have already seen. I sure hope he proves me wrong.

Give him a break. In 2009 he was a left handed pitcher in the Dominican Republic. To make the transition that he has already made goes to prove what kind of special athlete he is. This dude has so much more potential to reach its crazy.

Stay tuned!

Elias Díaz. He will be the starting catcher as soon as Francisco Cervelli goes down with his annual injury. Kid is going to be a pretty good Major League ballplayer.

Hey, look at Scooter Gennett, Chris Taylor, and Tommy Pham last year. Who saw that coming? It would not be a shock to me if Polanco hit 30 homers.

When I say he lacks athleticism, I mean that in a very relative way, comparing to him to elite defensive outfielders in the game. He does have very good speed and a very strong arm, but if he is going to produce a lot more than he has, it's going to be based on what he can do in the batters box. And so far that's been kind of mediocre. He's not a kid anymore. This will be his fifth season in the bigs.

Yes. I think he added bulk last offseason. This year it needs to be more about legs and flexibility. He and Meadows both.

In that case we need to see if he weighs less than a duck. And if he does that means he floats. What else floats? Thats right, wood! So if he weighs less than a duck he is obviously a witch and we should Burn him!

It wouldn't shock me if Polanco hit 30 homers... in three years... when he's part of another team.
