Be prepared to be depressed. Cubs trying to get Darvish and the Cards trying to get Donaldson. Those two moves would land the Bucs solidly back in the second tier of the division again, where they resided for over 20 years.

More like third tier of MLB.

Bottom 1/3rd in payroll and revenue so yes, 3rd tier is accurate

yeah, those guys signing over the hill, shot bums is going to do that.

Darvish was done 3 years ago.

Donaldson... c'mon.

Who has a better, deeper pitching staff than the Bucs in the Central.

Bueller... Bueller...

Well, Darvish doesn't scare me as much as Donaldson. He has slugged at least .550 for the past 3 years with an OPS of over .900. That doesn't sound over the hill.

Yeah?, Who would want a guy with a 4.8 WAR who hit 33 home runs last year. Even as a rental. Who?

Yu Darvish I'll give you. Although breaking ball pitchers kill the Pirates.

Giants must want to compete in 2018. I mean it is an even year. They just got Evan Longoria from the Rays for Christian Arroyo, Denard Span, and two pitchers. So much for getting Arroyo as part of a McCutchen deal.

Juan Nicasio, the reliever that the Pirates RELEASED in August, just signed a two year contract for $17 million. Wasn't worth $600,000 when they cut him loose...

What would Nicasio have done for us in September? We'd still end up right where we are.

In fairness, M's are desperate for 'pen help and are in 'win now' mode.

They overpaid.

Archer likely to be on the block/move next.

He would look good in black and gold and the Pirates have plenty of young assets to spare (especially if they flip Cole)...

Win a few games that we lost. Winning games is good for marketing. Giving away good players to save a relative pittance is very bad for marketing. Penny wise and pound foolish.

To the fans, Money was never the issue with the release of Juan Nicasio. It was the fact that they didnt want to trade him to the Cardinals when the Cardinals claimed him on revocable waivers. Nuttington specifically said they didnt want to help an inner division opponent win, and by doing so increase revenue to use in the coming season. So they released him on non revocable waivers thinking that a bottom tier team would claim him. Who did. Phillys picked him up. Then traded him for a decent prospect to the Cardinals.

Sometimes it amazes me that Nuttington still has a job.

Correct. I can think of at least two. I didn't post this because I thought the obvious comeback would be, "So what difference does two wins mean to an under .500 team." But isn't winning every game you can the point?
