Carlos Santana to the Phillies for three years and $60M.

Yeah... that will end well.

Zack Cozart to the Angels.

One Pirate killer gone.

With no set 3B option, why did the Bucs not get in on Cozart? Reasonably priced too....they don't want to win... :x :x :x

He had a fantastic year last yea at age 31. His career overall though is very meh and not really better than internal options.

Don’t let the one team he was always good against (the Pirates) cloud your vision of what he really is.

Whoa! Crazy trade. Dodgers send Scott Kazmir, Brandon McCarthy, Charlie Culberson and Adrian Gonzalez to the Braves for Matt Kemp. That had to clear some dead payroll for the Dodgers.

Yeah, I don't get it.

According to MLBTR it’s for luxury tax reasons.

Presumably the Braves will flip those assets for other assets which better fit their rebuild. So that... sort of makes sense?

As for the Doyers, it still doesn't make sense because Kemp isn't cheap, or good, and their OF is full.

This is a garbage trade for the Doyers; especially considering that they could have had Stanton for a similarly cheap (price talent-wise). It's hard to understand their priorities.

The same article also said Kemp will not play a game in a Dodgers uniform, he will also be flipped. I can't recall if dead money counts toward the luxury tax. If they just cut Kemp and eat the 22mm/yr for 2 years and still save more in salary of the exited players + the tax

Word out of Miami says that J.T. Realmuto has requested a trade. I hope Huntington at least does his "due diligence" here. You know they want prospects. The guy is only 26 and makes nothing.

Dodgers/Braves trade makes sense for both sides.

Dodgers get under the luxury tax threshold for 2018, which means their penalty for the 2019 season will only be 20% of the overage, instead of 50%.

Braves pick up some marginally useful players for 2018, without it adding anything to their financial obligations.

Gonzalez released today. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/ ... zalez.html

Pirates are the perfect landing place for Gonzo. Bench bat with some pop. A guy who can spell Bell when he needs a rest. Or better known as an addition to the "Sunday Line up". He would be available to the pirates for the pro-rated portion of the league minimum. Its a scenario Gonzo could be up for as well. He has a back problem that doesn't allow him to be a full time starter. He couldn't handle a everyday AL DH spot either. Just cant..... Say yes to Gonzo.

You're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, because you remember what he used to be.

Bell is better batting left. Freese, Rodriguez, and Osuna can all play first, and all bat right. So our lefty bench bat needs to be someone who can play outfield.

I have to disagree. If Gonzo could play more than 1B maybe. He is destined for an AL team.

He hit 3 HR last year and his SLG was .355. Not really a guy with pop anymore.

Be prepared to be depressed. Cubs trying to get Darvish and the Cards trying to get Donaldson. Those two moves would land the Bucs solidly back in the second tier of the division again, where they resided for over 20 years.

More like third tier of MLB.
