I can see this happening for it's a very Pittsburgh Pirates-type move. It would make me want to vomit.

If this is for third base, I'm pleasantly surprised. Hell of an idea.

Agreed. Made me want to puke when I heard it.

Yup, looking forward to 50 or 60 games missed due to injury. He's made of glass, bad move.

No. If the goal is to win 70-75 games, sign Neil Walker. Sign three or four Neil Walker's for $3-$6 million a piece. Be marginally average. This is what the Pirates do and this is why the Pirates haven't won a playoff series since 1979.

Why the ruckus?

As a bench guy, such as another David Freese type, Neil would be a solid addition.

Of course, as a consistent starter and/or depending on what the Bucs would have to pay for him... ehh...

Believe me, he wouldn't come to Pittsburgh to spot-start.

.272/.344/.451 over the past 4 seasons. Why not? Moroff isn’t good and Frazier’s glove will keep him from being a regular. The injury issues are real but he’s a solid ball player. Kind of blows my mind that half the board wants to bend over for Frazier but that Neil Walker guy who is actually good at baseball... no way Jose.

If we can get Neil Walker without breaking the bank, then I don't understand why we wouldn't do that. The only thing that makes this a bad move is if the Bucs have to spend a bunch of money.

The only reason this is even being discussed is that there isn't much of a market right now for his services. And yes, it's because of the injury issue, especially because of it being his back. Offer him 2 years at $8-9 million per year, and see if he bites. It would be a ticket-selling move for the team, and an immediate upgrade over anyone not named Kang.

Because he’s fragile. Spend 10 million but expect 3 or 4 trips on the DL

Frazier has potential. Walker is fragile and a 'ticking time bomb' concerning his prime.

I'm pro-Walker if he can be had at a reasonable price. If he's looking to come back AND cash in? Nah. We're good.

10 million would be considered ‘a bunch of money’ for Neil Walker, which would make it a bad move.

in 2016 Walker hit 23 HRs. Its obvious, if its true they are interested in Walker, that the Bucs are looking to add some reasonably priced power. Thats all.

Yet in 2017 he hit 14. In fact in 9 years he only hit over 20 homeruns twice.

Pass.

Rellime, I totally agree in the spirit of what you are saying here. But the reality is that Walker is a very average player. And the Pirates likely need help at 3rd base. Especially needing a guy that has potential for some HR pop. And since the Pirates dont do above average players when it comes to free agency, Walkers potential to hit 15+ HR's at the possible home town late in the career discount is just what the front office enjoys the most. And when he fizzles or is oft injured, why we will all just move on to 2019 wont we. Thats the way baseball works in the steel city.

Now as a fan, Like you, when it comes to Walker, JUST SAY NO! Spend the extra dough and sign Todd Frazier and solve the 3rd base problem once and for all. (Or the next 2 or 3 years anyway).
