Adam LaRoche is hitting less than his weight. Expect another stellar start to the season for our overpaid half season star!! Yay!

He has been such a bust.

This just in: spring training stats don't mean squat.

Again, your obsession with the LaRoches is quite unhealthy.

Isn't this something we've all known about for the past 2 years?

There now 3 sure things in life: taxes, death, and Adam LaRoche only hitting around June 15th

Xavier Nady hit .136 last spring. Then on opening day, went 4-7, hit 2 HR's and drove in 4 runs.

Just sayin'

And was it a year or two ago that Gorzo tore up in spring training and then sucked it up big time during the regular season?

This just in: Tomorrow is April 1st.

LaRoche's career stats in April...BA of .182...OBP of .277...SLG of .328 for an OPS of .605. Those stats DO count.

Then make that argument. Don't lead off with some half-baked theory on spring training numbers.

Atleast he is talking about Adam this time and not Andy. I got so sick of hearing about how good Andy LaRoche is going to be this season on this board that i can't stomach his name.He is a B-U-S-T bust.

Wilton, you may not like that I'm down on Adam LaRoche, but deep down, you are too. C'mon, you can feel it in your bones. He's getting ready to start his own annual "fan fest".

It's okay to admit that he needs to go...anywhere.

He needs to go in July when he will bring a reasonable return. He might be the only player in baseball that teams would give more to have for half a season than for a full one.

Oh give it a rest. Adam LaRoche is a perfectly average first baseman. I'm happy to see him traded so long as we get something worthwhile in return. What I object to is the constant badgering of his value based purely on the fact that he does most of his hitting in the latter part of the season.

I don't know what you thought he would be when we got him that would cause you to now label him a "bust," but his career development has been totally predictable based upon his past. The focus on his seasonal pattern is overblown, as I showed last season:

Me thinks someone is taking message board banter FAR too seriously.

Me thinks that your "message board banter" is cheapening the value of the board.

With all due respect, this is a Pittsburgh Pirates message board. Does it get any cheaper?

I've been a fan since 1978 and it's ok to complain about a player that has underwhelmed. Lighten up and learn to laugh at life. It makes the whole ride easier.

California's legislature should be taken en masse to the loonie bin. Politicians who raise taxes in times of economic hardship need to be held accountable.

I felt a call to arms, Wilton ...

Let's see if I've followed this thread:

VanSlick takes a shot at Adam V for his lousy spring.
Wilton takes a shot at Vanslick for not presenting evidence
Van clearifies his position with statistics
Wilton compliments and then takes another shot
Vanslick returns the volley with advice on correct thinking

Seems like a typical conversaetion for a moment then our buddy Bucfan (based on the 'populist' comment) can not resist the political insertion.

Sub rises above the temptation to put the Republican in his place over misplaced political thinking. What a guy!

I'm pretty sure that's it, but am open to others interpretation of events so far.

Come on, Bucfan, you know better than to not include an appropriate picture from Braveheart. ;)

Well i have to agree with Wilton and say Adam LaRoche isn't as bad of a player as most on the board say he is. I think he is going to have a very good first half to the season this year because he is going to want traded.

I hope you're right.

But a little history here. I live in Tennessee, where most are Braves fans. I have numerous friends that are big Braves fans and ALL of them were more than happy to see LaRoche go. A couple of them laughed and said, "You can have him."

Now I see why. Think about it, what good is a player that is only good for 3 months of the season? Yeah, he catches fire when we are WELL out of contention.

I would equate LaRoche's split seasons to eating a sandwich that is half poop, half Italian meatball sub. We are forced to eat a half a sandwich of poop, before we get to the good stuff. And we keep doing it over and over again.

I don't like poop.
