Hi everyone. I have enjoyed reading your knowledgeable and witty posts for years. I grew up on the Space Coast of Florida in the mid to late 1970s. The area produced several sports stars and Hurdle was one the biggest, so I have a fondness for him (Wakefield was another). That said,

I cannot fathom why Hurdle keeps using Hudson in close games. Let him mop up some innings next time we go down 6-0 after an 0-2 grand slam in the first.

I have never seen a team bunt less successfully. Leyland must wonder what the hell is going on.

How many squeezes have been successfully executed in his tenure?

I do like that he is a player's manager. I cannot imagine what it must be like to have your career hanging by a thread, I am sure knowing that a manager has faith in you and will let you work through things is a huge relief, but as stated, how many chances does Hudson get?

How can Jaso and Cervelli swipe 2nd and Cutch cannot?

Finally, the defensive plague seems to be fading-it has been better the last few games.

BTW, I am a Pirate fan b/c my father is from Butler, Pa. (or outside of it) and when I was 6 the Buccos won the '71 series where Roberto went crazy. Then 7-11 had these cool Icee plastic cups with stars from the early 70's and the first one I ever got was Willie Stargell. Hooked for life!

Welcome aboard, glad to have you!

They're going to have to keep trying with Hudson. They signed him to a deal that was like 2 years 12 mil. Oops!

I would rather the Pirates rely on Rock Hudson than Daniel Hudson.

Welcome, Pirates Pride! I lived in Butler myself from 1986-1995.

For those geographically challenged about Slippery Rock...

... until very recently it was a dry town.

Liriano has a 6.35 ERA. That entire transaction has been a been a wash of suckitude.

It was dry when I attended. We had to drive to Grove City to buy our kegs of Stroh's each weekend. Nearest bar was Springs Tavern, aka The Shed, 5 or six miles south of town on the way to Butler. 8-) 8-)

Yeah, and the legalization of bars in the Rock, killed the SRU business at the 3 B's in Zelie.
