Would he fill the LF spot?

I would take his chances at becoming a useful player over Craig Monroe's. Spring results be damned.

Considering the numbers he put up last year hitting in Philly's stadium I would guess he fills our LF spot about as well as Burnitz filled our RF spot in the not so distant past.

Aren't the Bucs looking for a right handed batter? Jenkins just doesn't fit the bill -- pass.

That's damning with faint praise, Chet.

Willy Mo Pena was released today as well. I think he is a much more interesting name than Jenkins (or Monroe for that matter). He's only 27, and his fielding liabilities could be limited in RF at PNC.

Yes, but his hitting liabilities would not be so limited at PNC; they'd be exacerbated, especially by the very deep left field wall that would neutralize Pena's only asset -- power. Both Monroe and Pena stink at hitting; if I have to choose, I'd pick the guy with the better glove.

I would take Pena over Jenkins any day. Geoff Jenkins is Jeremy Burnitz from a couple years ago.

Mo Howard is also a much more interesting name than Jenkins or Monroe, but I doubt he'd hit much, him being dead and all.

Seriously, though, I have no strong opinion on the matter, beyond the fact that Monroe is a waste of roster space, and that wasting a roster space this year doesn't really matter much.

I see no real advantage of losing Monroe to either of them. Maybe Monroe will have a season like his spring.

He might. It's not the way to bet, though. He's much more likely to have a season that matches the average of his last two seasons, and that would be a bad season.

I don't think he is going to break out as a far but i think he will prove to be a good pick up. He fits well into PNC Park.
