Okay..I know I will be in the minority on this..but here it goes...we need a LF who can hit..Sheffield can be the bridge while we wait on McCutchen. Plus, we would get to see some history when Sheffield hits his first home run (since it would be his 500th career homer).

Thoughts??

If McCutcheon wouldn't be ready until 2010 and we needed a one-year bridge . . . maybe.
IMO, we won't need a one-year bridge. We need a "month of April" bridge. That bridge is named Monroe Bridge, Hinske Bridge or Morgan Bridge.
As of May 1, I envision McCutcheon will be in Pittsburgh.

Just my $.02.

Sounds like the Tigers are making space for their young players, ie. Jeff Larish.

I would hate to see Sheff in Pittsburgh, though I doubt he would come if we even offered him a contract.

At this point in his career he is strictly replacement level, and he carries excessive baggage along with him as well. When a team is full of veterans, that might not be a problem, but we got some bright young stars who don't need to be with a guy who purposely threw balls away to get out of Milwaukee.

There is no way he ends up here. What is his contract situation with Detroit?

He is owed $14 million by the Tigers. Any other team gets him for the minimum.

Well that makes it official; he is washed up. Time to hang out on a beach somewhere.

Pittsburgh is the city of bridges, so 3 bridges to get through April seems fitting...

Well i know i am going to be a goat for this comment but i believe it is true.

Craig Monroe's numbers in the 2009 season will be better than Gary Sheffield's.
I'm not saying Monroe is much but Sheffield is done. The Shef got served!
