And that sound you hear is the air being let out of the Pirates' tires for 2017.

What an idiot. He was already bordering on one of my least favorite players. Now he is.

Where do they go from here? I can't imagine they call up Meadows yet. Trade?

Frazier may now be an everyday outfielder.

When did they increase the 50 game penalty to 80?

Wow that's a bombshell. I thought you were joking. And wish you were.

That's a harsh penalty for a first offense.

what a kick in the nads...

when the policy was introduced in 2004 the penalty was 10 days for first offense, 30 days for the second, 60 for the third, and a year for the fourth, talk about ratcheting things up over the years....

so how many guys on the bucs current roster have been slapped with ped-related suspensions?

marte
cervelli
bastardo

anyone else?

50 is the minor league penalty, 80 is MLB. See the Marlins 2B last year.

Guess we'll know if Marte comes back a skinny kid.

If I'm Clint, I move Cutch back to CF, Frazier to RF and permanent leadoff, at least until he proves he can't do it.

I go shopping for a 4th OF with some power and maybe on the end of his career. Meadows ain't close yet.

Jose Osuna has just been called up.

I would be done with Marte. Trade him for whatever, but be done with him. His head is always up his ass anyway. See if Cutch would take another team (very) friendly contract extension. At least he represents the city the right way.

If Osuna looks good, and Meadows pans out I know I'd be done with Marte.

Absolutely. The unknown factor here is the negative impact his "Mr. Cool" attitude and playing style had on the Pirate clubhouse. Maybe it will be "cool" to hustle again.

That's crazy talk. Do you want them to field a good team or not? Marte is exactly the kind of player the Pirates need. A good player signed at a below market price.

Should they trade Cervelli too? If so who would catch?

And for Cutch, they may not even want to pick up his option for next year, yet alone extend him.

Hard to know what goes on behind closed clubhouse doors but I found Cutch's reaction to Marte calling him off on Friday interesting.

https://www.mlb.com/gameday/pirates-vs- ... ame=490250

I commented to IA at the time that Cutch looked pissed off. Look at the way Cutch turns away. Body language.

Awful timing in light of ESPN's feature on Marte last night and him being the first graduate of the Latin America Academy.
