Joe Koshansky is a power hitting lefty 1st baseman who was being blocked by Helton and Atkins in Colorado and they put him on waivers...Texas added him and sent him to AAA...

Quote:
Blocked by the presence of veteran Todd Helton with the Rockies, Joe Koshansky was freed when the Rangers claimed him off outright waivers.
Koshansky hit .300 with 31 home runs and a Pacific Coast League-leading 121 RBIs last season. With the Rockies, he hit .211 with three home runs, three doubles and eight RBIs in 18 games.

The Rangers are building up a good minor league system.

They have a ton of bats, and no pitching...

I noticed that also, and agree. The Pirates must have passed on him, since he cleared waivers of all NL teams before the Rangers could select him.

I guess the Buccos are satisfied with Pearce/Jones handling first base in the minors and as future prospects at the position.

I don't think he's going to make it. He either needs to cut way back on the strikeouts or dramatically increase his walk rate to play every day in the majors. Since he'll be 27 in may, I don't see that happening. Right now he looks to me like he'd hit about .230 or less in the majors with 190 strikeouts or more. My guess is that the Pirates don't rate him any higher than they rate Pearce, so they passed.
