Let's hope the pattern does not continue.

We need to be the broom, not the dirt.

Fowler CF
Diaz SS
Piscotty RF
Grichuk LF
J. Martinez 1B
Garcia 3B
Fryer C
Wong 2B
Lynn RHP

After the first 4 guys, not a whole lot to be concerned about with this lineup.

You don't need to be concerned about Fowler either. He's in a huge slump.

Tprothro, that is a great pic you have to start the thread. Man, I love those uniforms. I bet the players hated them, though. Looks like Curt Flood coming into third there. I think Brock was #20.

They gave a throwing error to Cervelli, but J-Hay should have caught that. Should have been two outs. Instead 2-0.

I thought the Cardinal pitching sucked??????????

So, the Cardinal pitching is better than the Pirate Offense?

Or, just tonight with the particular matchups?????

Oh, that's right, baseball is a series on individual "matchups" dominated by starting pitching. I forgot! ;)

Do we have a fourth come-from-behind win in us? Not feeling it.

Ivan Nova with perhaps the lowest pitch count I've ever seen in 8 innings: 78 pitches, 56 of them strikes. Incredible! He will probably be credited with a complete game unless the Bucs tie or go ahead and he doesn't come out for the 9th. Talk about efficiency. He is buying the Searage credo of getting a decision on a hitter within 3 pitches. Throw it over the plate and they have to swing.

Yep, and I believe that's Maury Wills, who played a number of games at 3rd base for the Bucs.

Good call, Scrap Iron. As I recall, Gene Alley was the Pirates SS, so Wills played mostly at third. Wills was on the down side of a great career, but he played well for the Buccos that year.

And I too loved those vest uniforms the Pirates wore in the 60s, Mr. Frobel. They've tried to resurrect that look a few times since, but it never caught on for long.

Not too worried about yesterday's loss. The Pirates made some pretty good contact yesterday. There were some squarely struck balls right at the outfielders.

Nova pitched like an ace too. He was downright filthy.

We'll get 'em today.

One caveat . . . not exactly an imposing line-up and a lot of them are slumping right now.

that's what bugged me. That was not even close to an A game lineup. Of course they only got 2 runs, but still.

And I hate Kolton Wong! He hits like .215 against everybody else and about .980 with a 1.65 OPS against us. Sick of this prick hitting key homeruns

Don't misinterpret my point. Nova was really good. But he wasn't facing the Cubs. It was the Cardinals. Really happy with his outing but I'm cautious about getting too excited.

For similar reasons, I'd caution any Cardinals fan about getting overly excited about Lynn's performance.

You know, there is one obvious solution to this problem. Doink!
