I love Marte when he plays like these games matter.

Because they do.

I love Marte and realize that he's a flawed player who doesn't always appear to give his all and swings at everything. When he's on, it's beautiful but when he's off it's ugly. Reminds me of the swashbuckler golfers.

If you sat him down and showed him video of his at bats, could you get him to stop chasing so much?

I know hitting is very hard, but when its the same mistake over and over, wouldn't it be possible to make an adjustment?

I am fairly confident that the Pirates have tried every way possible to get Marte to lay off the dirt-slider.

He can't. The dirt-slider is his meth.

How's today's news for filling in the blank? At least we won't have to be frustrated by his cavalier attitude in the outfield for a while.

Marte suspended 80 games for PEDs

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte has received an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Nandrolone, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The suspension of Marte is effective immediately.
"The Pittsburgh Pirates fully support MLB's Joint Drug Agreement, including the very tough penalties for violations of its prohibitions," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said. "We are disappointed that Starling put himself, his teammates and the organization in this position. We will continue to fight for the division title with the men who are here and will look forward to getting Starling back after the All-Star break."

Well, one player doesn't make a team...right? :D

At least we won't have to watch him try to hit balls that are 8 feet away for a while.

After following baseball all of these years and specifically the Pirates, I'm becoming more and more disenchanted with this "team" sport...if you consider it a "team" sport.

I believe it's only a battle of individual matchups dominated by starting pitching. I also believe the HP ball and strike calls suck. Most of the arguments take place
at HP. The replays demonstrate to me many, many out calls at 1B should be actually safe calls. The officiating sucks and nothing changes except for maybe instant replay which proves to me how wrong Umps can be. Why not then the ball and strike calls at HP?

I'm not liking baseball more and more and I'm appreciating the NHL more and more. GO PENS!!!!!!
