Since PV was playing No. 2 ranked Yavapai College today, I took the day off, talked my father in law into going for a 2 hour ride to Prescott to see the DH. PV pulled off the upset in game 1 winning 4-3. Jake Swift who has been their most consistent starter pitched another good game to get the win. In the nightcap, No. 1 took the loss. He threw better than last week but walked 3 in the first two innings and aided by a couple of errors gave up 5. He got it back together a bit. Ended up going 5 1/3 8 runs, 3 earned, 8 hits 5 K and the 3 BB's. It was a lesson in learning how to pitch without your best stuff. An odd stat today. PV had 0 runs on 10 hits through the first 6 innings. Final was 12-2. Split with the #2 team in the country is a nice shot of confidence for the team. Now they try and make the NJCAA region playoffs. They are 20-16 overall and 7-7 in their D II conference.

First innings are the toughest for a lot of pitchers. Trying to find the touch on offspeed, getting used to the mound, getting used to the umpire. It is not uncommon for a pitcher to struggle finding the strike zone a bit early on, and then once he finds the groove, to pound the strike zone.

Good split. Son's college is going to the JC Championships? That is impressive, given that the program is new, correct?
