I wonder if the Yankees knew that he was married to a 43 year old woman, who uses aliases for criminal activity in the past?

hhhmmm. Maybe we should have looked under the hood longer, before we bought the car?

I could be mistaken, but I thought he'd still need a visa, it would just be a different type. Either way, if I'm Tabata, given the choice, I'm taking my chances with the American Embassy in Venezuela!

Once Tabata comes to Altoona I could help him find some women a little younger...

VS -
Wasn't he married in December which would have been after the trade with the Yankees?

Yeah, that may very well be the reason but . . . he's 20, a hot shot prospect, probably a future millionaire . . . and he marries a forty-three year old woman who . . . being generous here . . . is of average looks? If he wanted an American wife, I'm pretty sure that there were some younger women (Hispanic or otherwise) who may be willing to play the role. And possibly, just possibly, some of them might be . . . ummm . . . what men would call "smoking hot."

I'm thinking that Jose likes to drink wine and that Ms. Tabata might be able to cork a bottle of wine without using a corkscrew - thus saving him some of that minor league salary.

If Jose likes older women, he'll love playing in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has one of the oldest populations in the USA.

This story is sad and is yet another screwed up child abduction case from Florida that makes national news...

It might be a little tasteless but oh well....

Atleast she's a versatile cradle robber and not one dimensional...

I have to say this is one of those that puzzles me.His life is like an episode of Desperate Housewives and he is the Hispanic gardener. He is 1 year and 1 month younger than me that makes me sick.My friend who is 22 is married to a women who is 30 and all our friends thought that was way to old.I think a younger women with an older man is okay(which most of the members of this board will agree with) but i don't think a relationship between an older women and a younger man will work out unless they are less than 6 years apart. So 23 years difference isn't gonna work. She could be his mother easily. She is over double his age.

I'm not really up on this kind of thing, but isn't she what you young guys call a MILF? (Mothers Involved in Ludicrous Felonies).

Hey, Colin....maybe you are on to something...maybe she IS his mother, and when they realized that if she had children, they would also be her grandchildren, so she abducted a baby and......Hmmmm, didn't Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter make a movie about this????

Well... it ain't "Ozzie and Harriet." great quote from Raising Arizona. That came out the year i was born.I think Jose needs to see this movie. You hit the nail on the head she found out she was infertile and she couldn't adopt because of her criminal record so she stole a poor Venezuelan boy and kept him as her own.I just don't get where the freaky twist of how she is now his girlfriend comes in.This could be Raising Jose but it has a sick twist to it.It really is close to that movie though, its kinda weird.

Tabata married Pereira, 43, in January 2008, according to Hillsborough County records.

That was well before his trade to the Pirates. Makes you wonder if Cashman knew Tabata had baggage.

When I think of romantic wedding, this is what comes to mind...

Quote:
She and Mr. Tabata, then 19 1/2 and having just completed a season with Class A Tampa in the New York Yankees organization, were wed in January 2008 at a check-cashing and tax outlet called Amscot, the Times reported.

Nothing says love like an Amscot wedding!

The happy couple at the reception right before Jose reported to the Yanks AA affiliate.
