Karstens getting shelled. Couple that with Ohlendorf getting shelled yesterday by the Phillies AAA squad and things are looking bleak for the back end of the rotation. I keep telling myself it's only spring training.

Nice to see Moss back in the line-up.

4-0 Boston bottom of the 3rd.

Karstens: 3IP; 3BB; 0k; 3H; 4ER
Veal: 1.2IP; 4BB; 1K; 0H; 1ER

Ouch!! Those lines would make Gorzo blush.

5-1 Boston after 5.

**************

Bautista and Burnett continue to mow 'em down! Maybe all four are working on their batting practice pitches for when they're finally out of baseball (next year) ?

Bautista: 1.1IP; 0BB; 2K; 3H; 1ER
Burnett: 1IP; 0BB; 1K; 3H; 3ER

Monroe and Diaz having big games again.

9-4 Boston.

**************

And the Meek shall inherit the earth:

0.2IP; 2BB; 1K; 2H; 2ER

If not for Bootcheck pitching a scoreless 0.1 inning, we'd a had a complete suck out!

edited for idiocy

9 walks against the Sux ... yeesh, the Pirate pitching staff better learn to freaking throw strikes.

So far, Maholm, Duke and Ohlendorf are throwing strikes. Guess who is having the most success this spring?

I cannot understand how some of these guys have such trouble finding the strike zone. It is not just the walks. They fall behind, groove 2-0 fastballs and get killed.

Check out Finder's tortured opening sentence over at the PBC Blog...

Quote:
Pirates starter Jeff Karstens, reliever Donnie Veal and, for one out, Denny Bautista limited most of the Boston Red Sox’s 2007 world-champion lineup to just three hits through five innings, but Jason Varitek’s three-run homer off Karstens was enough of a jump-start to give Boston a 11-4 victory today before 8,090 in City of Palms Park.

Me thinks someone's trying too hard to find a positive angle.

It seems as though we may not win 100 this year.

Exactly. After an 18-2 loss, the headline may read, "Pirate Pitchers Notch 27 Outs!"

I can't believe this game wasn't on TV.They usually put the spring training games on tv that we are getting to get floored in.Its like somebody out there gets a kick out of watching it.Its like stopping and laughing at a car wreck.
