McCutchen and Alvarez have been playing quite well in spring training. I dont see why anyone wouldnt think there is no chance for alvarez to be in Pittsburgh in september. And McCutchen should be in left to start the season. The best players should be on the team. I dont see Nyjer Morgan being a legitimate everyday player and Andrew could help the team more.

Depending on how Alvarez does this season, I could potentially see him called up in September for a little taste of the big leagues. I wouldn't expect him to be part of the team until mid 2010/2011 though.

I hope the Pirates are thinking ahead and have a HUGE chunk of money set aside for the future. If these guys continue their development it will cost a large sum of money to keep the team intact.

I highly doubt there is any such huge chunk of money, nor do I think that is the model to strive for.

They have to get the bulk of their production from players not yet eligible for free agency, and from marginal talent that will work cheaply. A few select prime free agents might be signed, but most of those guys will be traded for more young talent.
