No, not Michael Jackson type of watching young players. Instead, a brief overview of how the Pirates young talent has performed thus far in spring training. (And I add this to the analysis - spring stats are to be viewed with distrust, but that is not true as much for young prospects, since they are working against either established major league players, or their peers. Either way, spring tells us something.)

Jose Tabata: .444/.560/.611. 5 walks in 23 plate appearances. 3 2B's, 5 RBI's. Threw out a runner at home today.
Pedro Alvarez: .444/.500/.778. 2 walks, 3 K's. Hit 3-run HR in the 9th today. Also has 3 2b's. 4 XBH in 18 AB's.
A. McCutchen: .250/.377/.477. 9 walks, 3 2B's, 2 3B's, 1 HR. Very good reports on his defense. Down side - 14 K's in 54 plate appearances.

Evan Meek: 9 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 7 K's, 0.00 ERA, 3 saves. Throwing strikes and working pretty well.
Craig Hansen: 7.1 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K's, 6.14 ERA. Roughed up last outing. Control is improved.
Donnie Veal: 7 IP, 2 H, 5 BB's, 3 K's, 2.57 ERA. Figures skewed by awful 4-walk effort in one game.
D. McCutchen: 6.1 IP, 12 H, 4 BB's, 1 K, 11.37 ERA. Tough spring for pitch-Cutch.
Jeff Sues: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K's, 0.00 ERA. Limited duty, and Sues will be in minors this year but he is a promising guy.

Speaking of Michael Jackson ... why does he like twenty-eight year olds?
A: Because there are twenty of them.

Little known fact about Michael Jackson..at one point, he and former Olympic Figure Skater Tonya Harding were going to go into business together..

Michael and Tonya had plans to buy a horse racing track...Tonya would be in charge of handicapping and Michael would ride the three year olds..

Tip your waiters and waitresses... I'll be here all week..maybe even all season if the Curve fans like me..

If he continues to be a walk machine he could strike out 125 times and probably still get on base more than any other Pirates OFer not named Nate.

Oh, and I don't have any Michael Jackson jokes.

Players who walk a lot also tend to have high K totals, since they face a lot of two-strike counts. A batter needs to see some pitches to draw a walk.

I just bought a new car stereo with a voice activation system. When I say, "Soul", it plays soul music. When I say, "Rock", it plays rock music. Yesterday, some kids ran in front of my car, and I shouted "f------ kids!", and it played Michael Jackson.

Here's a new angle on the MJ jokes:

Q: How does Michael Jackson pick his nose?

:D Nice ...

Q: What is the difference between Michael Jackson and a plastic grocery bag?
A: One is made of plastic, artificially colored white, and is very dangerous for kids to play with. The other is used to carry groceries.
