So, I was spending some time today looking at the rosters of some of the Pirates team from the past decade and it was kind of shocking. This was really the decade that started my love of the Pirates, but I thought some people might want to make a list of their favorite line-up in the past 10 years. For me, this has more sentimental feeling than trying to put together the best team, though a lot of the players on it are playing with us now. I felt I couldn't make an all-time team because the last ten years would just be ignored. And we've spent too much time focusing on the team for that to happen. I also only focused on the good times, and tried to forget how things changed when they went sour.

Without further adieu, my dream Pirates team of the 2000's!

Pokey Reese! I completely forgot about his time here! Man, pitching has been rough here for quite some time. No Josh Fogg? Mark Redman?

Good work, chet and cappscrew. Geez, the Pirates have had some weak-ass players at third and second over the past 10 years.

Maybe we could simply pretend, put Nady at third, Giles in RF, and move Sanchez to second. Jose Castillo just not belong on any type of retrospective team ("Team of the decade," "Team of the week," whatever ...).

Sad that you can take the best players at every position throughout the decade and they would still only win about 70 games.

Chet why would your Pirate dream team include Jose Castillo at second and Freddy at third instead of Freddy at second and Aramis Ramirez at third? Also Steve Pearce in right over Nady? No Giles in the lineup?

Hmmmm. If we're talking last 10 years and not the 2000's I would take Kevin Young's 1999 season over the Craigster. Much better defensively as well. However I would concede Wilson if the whole body of work is to be taken into consideration.

It's not a lineup that would win the most games, but I was using the 2005 season for the decision to place Freddy at third and Castillo at second. Freddy had hit .344, and Castillo was showing progress that he might be able to hit 20 HR and flash steady defense. It was after the year and his knee injury that his defense started falling apart.

I really should put Nady over Pearce, I guess I'm still hoping Pearce will continue on his breakout season of two years ago.

I think I have to put Reggie Sanders on my list. Whoever mentioned Pokey reminded me of how many superstar-in-the-making second basemen we have had in this century (Warren Morris, Bobby Hill, anyone?)

This is the most depressing thread that I have read in long time. I completely agree with omgardd: our team of the decade is not even a .500 team let alone of championship caliber. I wonder how many other teams could claim that dubious distinction. Hopefully, the next decade will bring better times....
