Donnie Veal finally came back down to earth.

1.0 IP, 0 H, 2 ER, 4 BB

Freddy, Monroe and Jones with dingers.

Ohlendorf was better with zero walks, but did give up 6 hits in 3.1 IP.

Junior LaRoche is 2 for 2 and is now hitting .600. Please let this be reality.

Veal is going to stay with the team. A lefty who can throw 95 mph is just too valuable to give up. Plus, Pirates are likely to deal Grabow this summer, so they will have a spot for Veal.

As for Andy Laroche ... spring stats do not matter, but his consistent hitting indicates that his thumb is fine. That means a lot. A WHOLE lot.

I know Veal will hang around, but he also had a HB and WP in that inning. That's ugly.

His next appearance will be big...Whether or not he can rebound from it or not

Are we pre-conditioned by the past or what?

We win 11-4, have three homers, we're 7-3 this early spring and this thread is dedicated to Veal and his terrible outing. What's wrong with this picture?

Veal has had very good outings until today and for a Rule 5 guy is doing just fine thank you very much. Maybe he makes it maybe not, but IMO we need to stress the positives that are going on at the juncture. Why not talk about Freddy, Moss, Andy LaRoche, Alvarez, Tabata, or the improving pitching we're seeing?

I know we're not world beaters and will probably lose 90 or more but can't we get a little excited about our kids this spring?

If you look at the original post Sub, most of it is positive. I think Veal is significant because he has been so good this spring and it all came tumbling down. That's why it was the lead.

Spring stats do not matter, but - the Buccos are 8-3 this spring.

I know that they don't matter but you're watching them even closer then I am. What does that say?

I saw Veal the last two years in the Southern League. Unfortunately, this is kind of what I saw when he wasn't on his "A" game. The good news is that he has a great arm with the potential to be an absolute steal..but only if Donnie gets the "yips" out of his system.

I hope Andy LaRoche has found a zone of sorts. Maybe this could be a confidence builder for his season and a good starting over point.

As for Adam, low average and leaving runners in scoring position. I hope we trade him this year.

I think your obsession with the LaRoches is a bit unhealthy.

Or maybe it's your policing of my posts about the LaRoches that is unhealthy?

I was thinking of taking up smoking.
