AZ - is Jeff Larish of the Tigers one of the players you saw when he was young? He hit two bombs for Detroit today.

Not that spring matters, mind you, but hitting two bombs in any level, under any circumstances, is pretty impressive.

Yeah. His mother is an adaptive PE teacher in the school district that I work in. He is interesting in that he turned down 900K from the Dodgers after his Jr. year at ASU to come back back for his Sr. year to try and get further in the College World Series. He ended up only getting half that much from the Tigers the next year. By the way, his agent is Scott Boras, which is interesting in that he got way less by staying for his Sr. year.

Zelie:

Pirates site noted that Bucs starters Karstens, Ohlendorf and Gorzellany struggled with command over their past starts. No reason to panic, since it is part of getting arm strength where it needs to be.

"With the way things are shaping up, Karstens is likely to find himself in a battle with Ross Ohlendorf and Tom Gorzelanny for the final two rotation spots. The three have now pitched on consecutive days, and each struggled with his command this week.

Like Karstens, neither Ohlendorf nor Gorzelanny were able to keep their pitch counts low enough to finish three innings
."

Hoping that these guys find the strike zone by April. The fact that Kerrigan is pushing these guys to pound the strike zone is good news, but it may take some work to undo their habits.

Really, is 4 walks per 9 innings bad?

It ain't good.

Major League average last year was 3.4. The Pirates were 4.2. The teams with ERAs under 4.00 were 3.1. If the Pirates are to pleasantly surprise this year, they have to shave a walk per game off of their average. I won't hold my breath.......
