Another positive Pirate after yesterday was Sanchez, hindered by a knee sprain in 2007 and then last season by a surgically repaired right shoulder joint that still hasn't returned to full strength. He went 2 for 2 with a run-scoring double, a liner down the right-field line while Nyjer Morgan was running toward second base on a steal attempt. He also turned two double plays, the second while falling toward the mound. That difficult throw impressed even his new infield coach, Perry Hill, who is working with Sanchez on an arm slot and footwork to take pressure off that shoulder.

"I'm not 100 percent, obviously," said Sanchez, who three seasons ago hit .344 and was a representative .981 fielding percentage at third base, but regressed to .304 and .271 and roughly the same percentage at second base each of the past two years. "The shoulder, the strength is not to where it will be. But it did feel great to be back on the field."

This shoulder issue has me worried

This just blows my mind. Only a Pirate could have a minor procedure and take 3 years to recover from it.

I think this is something that is going to plague him the rest of his career at this point and turn him from a serviceable starter, to a utility man. It's a real shame. He proved in the second half of last season that even when he's not exactly healthy he can contribute. But there's no way he'll be able to turn in completely strong full seasons any more, I worry.

I dont know what kind of utility he can provide if his shoulder is bothering him...He wont be able to make the throws across the diamond from SS or 3rd...They're still still working on finding him an angle to throw from 2nd...

It might be time to get rid of him before it gets worse

He's never playing ss or 3b again. If he can create a DB falling away toward third, as he did yesterday, he'll be fine.

Clearly, the correct solution here, is to deal him just before the break. Hopefully at that point, he'll be hitting about.300 with a high on base percentage.

Then, we can deal him to the Angels or Red Sox for 2 gallons of motor oil, a six pack of Miller High Life, a new set of Good Year Eagle Racing Tires, and a freezer of Eskimo Pies.

Then, Huntington and Coonely can come on the air, and tell us all about how we are getting "QUALITY DEPTH".

I told you in a earlier post that the buc's were really working hard with Bixler at 2nd base. Look for Brian to start getting work there in spring games.

Bixler isn't the answer for this season atleast. My guess is that Bixler is getting extra work to be the backup to who ever would start if Freddy is out long term and i think that is either Vazquez or Cruz.I'm guessing Vazquez would get the start if Freddys out

The only question that Bixler is the answer to is who here sucks.

Andy LaRoche. If he lives up to his promise, he'll be a prime candidate to slide over to second when Pedro gets to The Show.

Didn't think of that scenario. Could be a while, but look out for us in 2011!! ;)

And that lets Ford come off the bench.

Careful- I was crucified for suggesting the same move a few months ago. That being said, I am a Shelby Ford fan, too.
