I was just wondering if any of you knew the answer to this. I read recently in a Baseball America article on the financial straits of some minor leaguers that when they are in spring training they get a weak stipend. Now, I know when they're called up to the big leagues they get a nice payraise, so I was wondering if they are in big league camp if they are paid at the minor league way, or if there is some escalator they get? Even if it is just for those few weeks.

I think their salary is generally determined by their roster status. So, even if they are in big league camp, if they are not on the 25 man roster, they are not paid as major leaguers. I believe that is why a lot of teams will wait until the end of camp to add a guy they knew would be going north all along. Though, in reality, what is that saving the team...$2500?

I'm not 100% positive of this though, so if someone has information that contradicts this, please do.

I believe that major league money begins when the season begins.

major league money begins when the season starts..but if a player is on the forty-man roster and in the minors, that player gets paid more than his teammates who aren't on the forty-man..

I think he's talking about per diem money, which is separate from their actual pay. And I don't know the rules on that. That's not information your are normally going to find in the newspaper.

meal money is major league as long as the player stays in the big league camp..once the player gets sent to the minors, his meal money gets significantly lower as well..

This may be a dumb question but is Isley's still in existance other than the Klondikes in the frozen food section? I loved skyscraper ice cream cones. Mint chocolate chip please.

Thanks Curve. I can tell you are going to be a valuable asset to this board because you know things the rest of us only wonder about.

While we're at it, how much is major league meal money? Or minor leagu, for that matter.
