Ive supported this kid. I felt his late and lousy 2008 was injury related. Like most of you, I looked forward to him coming to camp this year healthy and ready to show what he can really do. Today, I read this:

Third baseman Andy LaRoche (back spasms) will not be ready for Wednesday's Grapefruit League opener against Philadelphia

Three years ago, LaRoche was troubled by a protruding disc. This injury is in the same spot.

"This offseason I didn't really stick with (the exercises) like I should," LaRoche said. "I guess the doctors were right when they said I'll have to stick with them for the rest of my career."

Are you kidding me? After what happened last season, you have the freakin nerve to not do virtually everything and anything you can to ensure youre health. Maybe these current back issues are minor, but still, youd risk yet another lingering injury that could lead to another lost season when one more lost season could very well be the last nail in your career's coffin?? "I guess the doctors were right"? Huh? What kind of arrogant little bonehead are you?

Great idea. We can send him packing with Pedro Alvarez, right? I hear Don Kelly does his exercises...

He and Alvarez must have the same off-season trainer.

Maybe taking a flyer on Andy Marte isn't such a bad idea after all.

All the criticism this board has heaped on Andy and now he's a hero because I say one bad thing about him.

Pathetic.

Huh?

First, I'm not expressing any opinion but my own. Further, I don't think that I called him a hero or anything close. Additionally, I invite you to find one instance where I- BBF- heaped criticism upon Andy. And finally, do you REALLY think my opinions change just to disagree with you?

Pathetic.

Yes I do. Because I have a HUGE ego that influences my ability to post rational messages on a message board.

He lost me a while ago when I noticed that he can't hit. With Pedro in the wings, and Walker still having some potential, anything LaRoche does would be a bonus anyway.

He couldn't hit last year because his thumb wasn't right...I saw the guy play in Double-A and was raving about his light-tower type pop.. the guy has a really good chance to be something special if he works hard.

Don't kid yourself: Walker has very little potential, and certainly not enough to make him interesting. LaRoche has projectability coming out of his ears, and a minor league record to prove it. One bad half of a season in the majors does not kill his chances of being a solid contributor.

Remember, Mike Schmidt hit .199 his rookie year. He turned out half ways decent.

Good information. Laroche was one of the top prospects in all of the minor leagues in both 2007 and 2008:

2007 - 33rd best prospect in the minors per minor leage baseball site. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb ... p50/y2008/

14th best minor league prospect per Baseball Prospectus.
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/artic ... cleid=7092

2008 - 23rd best minor league prospect per Baseball Prospectus.
