We're already full-up on underachieving can't-miss 3b prospects named Andy?

(I actually have confidence in Andy LaRoche. Not so much in Marte.)

I also have faith in Andy Laroche. If his back is a serious issue, I could see us putting in a waiver claim for Marte, but I too think he is a bust and probably isn't worth the effort if Laroche can play.

I'll be surprised if the Twins don't put a claim on Marte, especially after their deal with Joe Crede fell apart.

True, but aren't waiver claims awarded in the reverse order of the standings? At least that is something the Pirates can win.

AL teams get dibs in this instance, though, right? Or am I misunderstanding waiver claim rules?

I would think that, with his knowledge of Cleveland's system, if NH passes on Marte, he has his reasons. The kid has bounced around from top-tier organization to top-tier organization. Something's suspect there.

You are correct, Kojak. A player must "clear" waivers for all teams in the same league as the team having control of the player, before he undergoes waivers in the other league.

I hereby promote you to full colonel.

A couple years back I was screaming that we should sign Brandon Phillips. We should have. I never see anything wrong with signing a high ceiling/low risk guys, and wish we would do it more often. Go get OtherAndym, Neal!

Marte cleared waivers.. he is headed to Triple-A Columbus. I'm SHOCKED that nobody took a flyer on this kid.
