Is Alvarez still hurt? Seems like a good time to let him take 3 wild swings for the fences.

Really liking the Shark out there for two innings. He's in a groove right now.

RIP 2014 Pittsburgh Pirates

This one, like many others recently...was brutal.

We have now officially become Cardinals fans over the next 4 days. The second wild card is the only realistic option.

Am I right that the offense didn't manufacture a single run for the last 23 innings of the series outside of the long ball?

Beaten again by the bottom of the order.

Can somebody please explain to me what the hell McCutchen was doing playing so deep??????

Two outs and Bourjos at the plate. BOURJOS. Not Mark McGwire. Not even Matt Holliday. BOURJOS, who couldn't hit one to the wall in center if you let him use a golf ball.

He should have been at least 20 feet closer, probably closer to 30 feet.

Gotta ask Hurdle & Banister. Remember, the Pirates position their fielders from the dugout based on statistics.

The reality of the situation is we have a mediocre team. Wish it weren't so, but it is.

I'm pretty sure that there is no statistic in existence showing that Peter Bourjos is a threat to pop one to the warning track in center field more often that hit grounds a ball up the middle.

Had same thought. As did the radio guys. You make Bourjos beat you by hitting ball over your head. You don't let him beat you by doing what .... Bourjos only does.

Pretty much, this team blows away from PNC. Tough minded, gritty, like the mascot on their sleeve, they are not.

They would have to win the rest of their games to match last year's win total.

The pitching just hasn't been as good as last year, especially the bullpen. Need to address this in the off-season, definitely.

No. Got beat by pitching. You don't blame a 1-0 loss on the bottom of their order.

This business about playing on the warning track has been beaten to death by bloggers like Charlie, Lackey and Williams. It boggles my mind why they keep making the same effing mistakes. And for all his awesomeness, Cutch's arm is average at best (and actually below average, objectively). He needed to be playing IN to give us a chance at the plate. BIG FAIL.

I said to myself that if we got swept this series, the season is done. Maybe, maybe not. Who knows? Maybe we catch lighting in a bottle and do a number on the Brewers and the Braves and sneak into WC2. But really, who cares. Too many damn weaknesses on this team -- lack of starters able to consistently go deep, a bullpen that is a sieve, injured stars (Cutch will not be the "real" Cutch until April), poor AB approaches when the heat is on, and I could go on. Ralphie is right. This team is average.

So I will continue to watch, and hope to at least get a second 82 win season in a row, but I am not buying playoff tickets.

NOW I WANT THEM TO PROVE ME WRONG. START PLAYING BALL, AND START WINNING THE IMPORTANT GAMES!
