It sounds like Grilli is an asshole.

The Pirates gave him the opportunity to revive his career. He should be grateful. I guess not though......

I'm too lazy to go back and look, but someone posted here earlier in the year about him being a jerk and the team being sick of him promoting his book.

He didn't really say a lot that was negative. One comment that stuck out "“The job I’m doing now, I’m overqualified for,”

No, you're not. Your job is to get people out when called upon. For that you are qualified but certainly not over-qualified.

We got the short end of that trade and I wish we still had Grilli, but from the Pirates' perspective it might have been an untenable situation.

I haven't read anything about Grilli that's made me like him.

Makes me upset he was on the cover of SI last summer.

I have no reason to think he wouldn't have kept blowing games and contributing to a suspect bull pen had he stayed. He should be thankful we took him out of an unproductive situation and into a good one.

Yeah, even if Frieri never pitches again and Grilli is closing for the Angels next season, I wouldn't mind the trade. He was just about done here.

Russell Martin's probably happy now that he doesn't get assaulted after every save.

^This made me laugh. I always thought that punching thing Grilli did was so ridiculous.

I resent him sucking this year so I guess we're even.

Perhaps he's reaching the point where the steroids are causing anger issues.

I know, there's no evidence that he's using PED's. Thirty-five year old failures suddenly develop high 90's fastballs all the time. So he might be clean.

This is one free agent that I'll be watching this off season. I'll be curious to see if any GM signs him to be their team's closer and offers closer money.

I wouldn't go near him.

Grilli is an imbecile. Between the "resentment" and his 80K a year soupline comments, and the whole blowing games left and right thing, nobody misses him.

He got traded because he sucked. Plain and simple. I was a fan of grilli too. Just the way life goes. I hope some of his blown saves don't still bite us in the ass in the end.

I miss the concept of Grilli more than the reality.

Grilli cheese was fun, and the idea of knowing that 7-8-9 was going to be OK thanks to Watson-Shark-Cheese was comforting.

The fact of the matter was that once he 'lost it' here it turned into a bad situation. Ideally, instead of trading him, the Bucs could have just moved Grilli to 7th/8th setup role, but between damaging his ego, 'losing that closers mentality' type thinking and other factors (mostly that he didn't prove to be able to fulfill that role) it wasn't meant to be.

So it doesn't make sense why Grilli would 'resent' the Pirates unless he asked to move to setup (to remain part of and help the team) and they shipped him off instead.

Of course you miss last year's bullpen, who doesn't? They were a great group and very dominant. But it regressed this year, Grilli was becoming mouthy and blew so many games in such a small amount of time, combined with his age, and LAA willing to trade a much younger power arm for him, it was a no brainer to trade him.
