Here is a breakdown of NL Central contending teams' ability (or lack thereof) to hold a lead when entering the 7th inning or later with a lead.

PIRATES
Starting 7th inning with a lead: 55 games. Held lead 49 times; ended up tied 2 times and trailed 4 times. Record in those games: 45-10.
Starting 8th inning with a lead: 59 games. Held lead 54 times; ended up tied 3 times and trailed 2 times. Record in those games: 51-8.
Starting 9th inning with a lead: 59 games. Held lead 52 times; ended up tied 5 times and trailed 2 times. Record in those games: 55-4.
NOTE OF INTEREST: The Pirates have lost a whopping 8 games in which they held a lead in the 8th inning and 4 games in which they held a lead in the 9th inning. Thus, in 18.75 percent of the Pirates' losses this year, they held a lead in either the 8th or 9th inning.

CARDINALS
Starting 7th inning with a lead: 64 games. Held lead 58 times; ended up tied 4 times and trailed 2 times. Record in those games: 56-8.
Starting 8th inning with a lead: 65 games. Held lead 61 times; ended up tied 2 times and trailed 1 time. Record in those games: 61-4.
Starting 9th inning with a lead: 66 games. Held lead 61 times; ended up tied 3 times and trailed 2 times. Record in those games: 64-2.

BREWERS
Starting 7th inning with a lead: 64 games. Held lead 60 times; ended up tied 1 times and trailed 3 times. Record in those games: 56-8.
Starting 8th inning with a lead: 65 games. Held lead 61 times; ended up tied 2 times and trailed 2 times. Record in those games: 59-6.
Starting 9th inning with a lead: 65 games. Held lead 63 times; ended up tied 1 times and trailed 1 time. Record in those games: 63-2.

So by your calculations the Pirates should have a record of 151-22. ;) :D

But seriously, 17 blown leads after the seventh inning (or 20% loss after leading in the eight) is brutal.

Part offense not tacking on 'insurance runs' and part regression from an otherworldly 'pen, but either/both ways it's just brutal.
