Everything that seemed to be headed in the right direction turned with two errant pitches.

Its the McCutchen era afterall.

Injuries, bullpen, starters lately, shitty bench and lack of clutch hitting. Doesn't brew up a winning combination…. :? :? :?

When your bench is depleted because they have to start and the only two reliable guys in your bullpen start blowing leads and you count on pitchers like Vance Worley......well, let's just say there is a fine line between a 6 game winning streak and a 6 game losing streak for this team.

As much as this sucks it would shock not me for them to turn around and win 10 in a row. It's just been that type of season.

Cincinnati keeps losing. That has to count for something, right?

Interesting stat (to me, at least): St Louis is 10 games over right now but has a -7 run differential. One of only two teams with winning records and a negative differential. The other being the Yanks who are 4 games over .500 with a whopping -37 run differential.

This losing streak has been a killer but we're not out of it yet. There are 37 games left and the outcome of each is yet to be determined.

The pitching and injuries have taken the brunt of the blame, but this Alvarez thing has been a major factor too. We thought we had a good solid third baseman; now we have a gaping hole. That combined with the injuries means guys like Nix, Morel, and Martinez, who shouldn't even be in the big leagues, are not just on the team but are in the starting lineup. The defense has been bad which makes the pitching bad.

While the odds are a lot worse than they were a week ago, we're still in contention, Walker is back, hopefully Cutch too, and Mercer not far behind. Then Harrison can cover third and we'd be back to pretty much full strenghth.

Need a win tonight.

Frankie vs. Harang.

If it doesn't happen tonight the real gnashing of teeth will commence.

At least they don't have Grant Balfour as a closer.

A pitcher should never have a name of Balfour.

The Pitt Panthers have a kicker named Blewit. Now how much confidence can you have in that guy?
