Walker's recurrent back problems (what is this, three seasons in a row?) have me wondering.

1. Would a switch to third base necessarily help his back situation? Less wear and tear?

2. Is this something requiring surgery? More rigorous conditioning?

3. Is this hurting his chances at an extension?

As of 8-18-14, my bet for the 2015 Starting Lineup (and, yes, I'd love to type Russell Martin's name in there but I just don't see that happening):

RF: Gregory Polanco
LF: Starling Marte
CF: Andrew McCutchen
1B: Pedro Alvarez
3B: Neil Walker
SS: Jordy Mercer
2B: Josh Harrison
C: Tony Sanchez

That's a scary lineup. Scary because I don't think Sanchez is ready to command a pitching staff or slow down base stealers. Other than that, looks good, better figure out the catcher situation. I'm sure some here think Tony is fit enough.

As to the OP, back injuries are a bitch. Yes they derail careers. Take that for what it's worth. I don't think Neil will finish in Pittsburgh. Opinion.

That's a pretty solid lineup offensively, even with Harrison's likely regression at the plate.

Substitute Alvia at catcher, and I'm OK with that. I think he can be had in the offseason.

Done deal.
