Wow. Disappointing.

If AJ was pitching he would be livid, with all the Nats hits that have been into vacated spots due to the shift.

I can't stand the shift. I really don't know what it's purpose is.sort like the prevent defense in football. Prevents you from winning.

Look, Morton isn't Cy Young but he is perfectly fine in his role as a #3 starter. A 3.62 ERA (FIP of 3.77), WHIP of around 1.2, only 9 HR allowed in 150 innings.

Members keep defending Charlie. Above is a quote by a long time member.
It was said today Charlie hasn't won a game in two months.

I must be watching a different game...I won't say anything...who knows...Charlie and the Bucs might come back and win this game...might... :?

Oh, by the way, I was raked over the coals again criticizing Charlie like I've been raked over the coals criticizing Gaby and Davis...

Who knows?...ya know?

I think he might be injured again.

Yes, actually, you can, and it happens to everybody, even contenders.

You'd think Morton didn't have a worse start last year later in the season or something...

Anyway, this team really needs good Gerrit Cole back. I'm kind of surprised they are where they are now with him missing as much time as he has. It's a minor miracle that every pitcher who has started a game aside from Cumpton and Rodriguez has an ERA under 4.

As bad as Morton was you can't go 0-12 at the top of your line up and win a lot of games.

Missing cutch in this series is huge. He kills the nats. Harrison had a horrible night at the plate.

Considering the fact that he has thrown 2 innings of relief over his entire career I don't think that's going to happen.

Its hard to be a starter in this league with two average pitches and erratic control. Guy doesn't even sport a quality 2nd offspeed pitch.

Edit. Inconsistency. Morton defines it. Why should Worley be upset about his last start? He wasn't. He made Detroit earn it. Its no wonder papa Searage has to come out to the mound screaming at Charlie like he's lost it. Mental case.

Nevertheless, that's what I'd do as well. I think he's hurt, but even if he isn't, skipping one or two starts might be a big help to him.

Two average pitches?

The last game Charlie won was back on July 2nd. That was against Arizona. The last game Charlie started that the Pirates won was on July19th. That was against Colorado.

The last five games Charlie has started the Pirates have lost. Charlie earned three of the five losses and two were no decisions.

Here are the Win/Loss records of the starting pitchers with the Brewers, Cards, Reds, Giants, and Braves:

1.) Reds: Homer Baily 9-5; Johnny Cueto 15-6; Mat Latos 4-3; Mike Leake 9-11; Alfredo Simon 12-8

2.) Brewers: Marco Estrada 7-6; Yovani Gallardo 7-6; Kyle Lohse 11-7; Wily Peralta 14-7; Mike Fiers 2-1

3.) Cards: John Lackey 12-8; Lance Lynn 13-8; Justin Masterson 6-7; Shelby Miller 8-9; Adam Wainwright 14-7

4.) Giants: Madison Bumgarner 13-9; Tim Hudson 8-9; Tim Lincecum 9-8; Jake Peavy 2-12; Ryan Vogelsong 7-8

5.) Braves: Aaron Harang 9-7; Mike Minor 4-8; Ervin Santana 12-6; Julio Teheran 10-9; David Carpenter 4-2

Pirates: Francisco Liriano 3-9; Jeff Locke 4-3; Charlie Morton 5-12; Edinson Volquez 10-7; Vance Worley 5-2

If starting pitching rules the day, which starting pitching staff would you pick just based on wins and losses?

Which starting pitching staff do you think is the weakest?

Which starting pitcher or pitchers would you not want?

The Pirates are lucky...IMHO...to be where they are right now...and, they better get their starting pitching on the right track and fast if they want to even make the playoffs...IMHO.

PS: The Bullpen has also been an overall disappointment except for Tony Watson who is 8-1 with a 1.40 ERA and Jared Hughes who is 6-3 with 1.80 ERA.

Wins and losses for pitchers are irrelevant. You could be 10-0 with a 5.50 ERA or 0-10 with 3.20 ERA.

I understand that BB.

The first question asked "just based on wins and losses" and you didn't answer the other two questions... :D...knowing what you know about these guys that is!

Excuses, hurry my ass. Velocity is still up. Instead of 92 over the plate somewhere to his liking its in the dirt, its wide of the plate.

Didn't see a dip in Pimentel's velocity as well. See?

His fastball was as low as 89 last night. When he's right, it's never under 92, and usually 93. His velocity is most definitely down. That worries me. The poor command also worries me. You often see that combination show up shortly before a DL stint. He may be perfectly healthy, but struggling, I'm not sure which it is. Whether he's hurt or not, I'd have him skip one or two starts when Cole returns.
