Only a matter of time until we hear that Nutting had a relative of Pedro assassinated so that they could put him on the "convenience list".

This was a preventive measure. Specifically, to SAVE the lives of fans sitting down the first base line, whose lives would be at risk should Pedro play third base again.

I'm sure you guys would also appreciate it if people started cracking jokes about your personal struggles in life coming on the announcement that a loved one of yours has passed away or is dealing with a serious illness.

OH, give it a break. No one is making fun of a true family issue. They are making fun of an invented reason to buy the Pirates a few games to figure out something.

C'mon shark, this is a message board. One built to discuss the Pittsburgh pirates, major league baseball and all the numbers that go with it. And crack jokes. What goes on in these players personal lives are none of our business. They don't read this, nor do they care to. We get at each other on here, the players don't give two shits about us. At the end of the day they play a boys game and go back to their mansions.

All in all, the thought is very Christian of you.

I remember how terrible I felt when my papaw passed. I could've used some wise cracks to lighten the heavy heart.

It would be interesting to know if this family member has been ill for an extended period of time and has been weighing on him mentally.

Nah. I happen to think that when something like death is involved, any sort of "making fun of" regardless of context is juvenile.

I would like to believe that someone going on a bereavement list would be one time when someone like a professional athlete who is under constant public scrutiny might be spared of comments like "it's his career that is dead!". I mean, similar armchair criticisms about players are only made the other 364 days of the year.

You're welcome to think it's harmless fun and games. I happen to think it's an example of sports fandom at it's worst.

My post wasn't to preach, and I have no interest in debating moral compasses or what is or isn't appropriate. Just offering a different viewpoint than the chorus of jokes.

I doubt that Pedro's concern for his wife's grandmother engendered such significant emotional turmoil that it would explain any part of his defensive struggles.

My guess they told Pedro to go tend to his wife's family etc. take a sabbatical, chill. Get away, get your head back on straight. Then come back, because we're gonna need you.

How many guys on the Pirates have a Mohawk? The tv cameras were showing the dugout and there was a guy with a Mohawk haircut in a jacket in the dugout. I only caught the back of his head for a second so I didn't see who it was but it sure looked like Pedro.
