According to enterprising internet journalist Dejan Kovacevic, Andrew McCutchen's injury is NOT an oblique strain.

What is it? I don't know. And neither does DK. But his source explicitly ruled out an oblique injury.

I have no idea whether this is good or bad. But he hasn't been put on the DL yet, which could be a good thing, right? Right? RIGHT?

Yes, its a good thing. The reports that it was an oblique and that it would take 30 days to heal were nothing more than speculation that got reported as fact. Journalism is a cesspool these days.

The Pirates haven't said anything yet but they will in a little while.

I don't mind speculation as long as you acknowledge that's what your doing.

Perrotto reported that Cutch has an oblique injury and will be out 30 days. Period. Like, how the fuck would you know? There isn't a person on earth who knows how long he will be out.

The competition among news sources has become the main reason for shit reporting like that. Think about how many resources we have to find news, as opposed to even 10 years ago. It's a ticker on the bottom of the screen world and we're just sifting through the sewage.

My buddy healed from a fractured rib in 3 days. It depends how bad it is. Bad ones can take up to 6 weeks.

Okay, so is the fractured rib from the swing or from getting drilled? I want a reason for the commissioner's office to fry Gibson's ass in molasses.

Well, this is better than an oblique, in the sense a fractured rib is playing with as much pain as you can handle. We've seen that in the NFL. So, I'm assuming he'll obviously miss some time as the bone mends, but then it might be a flirtation with my old friend Novacain.

I'd think it's pretty hard to fracture a rib by swinging a bat.

Looks like my guess that the injury was unrelated to getting hit in the back was about as good as all of my other medical diagnoses.

It seemed a bit fishy to me that McCutchen, who has a long-tenured history of good health, suddenly "pulled something" the day after taking a 95 mph fastball to his back.
